the 100% directionless thread

@Jim37F That's absolutely devastating.

I'm deeply sorry for the loss of your colleague.
Thanks. It's a bit rough because he was so young, so new to the Dept. The other guy on my Engine was classmates with him in Recruit Academy too, so we're doing our best to support him as well

(aaaaand in much lighter news... it sounds like they made the calls to the 8 guys selected for the Hoist Operator training, and I was not one of them...)

How's everyone in So Cal? My family is on the opposite end of LA Co from all the fires, so they're fine, but damn, some of the pictures are freaking nuts, hope everyone else is doing ok..

A month between posts now

At the age and auntie level where I get way more hyped for my young nephew's birthday than for my own birthday

Hoping this didn't belong to anyone here

That was wild. Arkansas State Police doesn't play around. Between the pit and the verbal judo, they're on point.

There’s been some questionable posters over the years…so…maybe.
Apparently, you haven't been watching the new HBO Max show "the Pitt"... In Pittsburgh ERs, this type of thing happens all the time, and it's just part of the job

I’m well aware of emergency vehicles being stolen. I was referring to the thief, not the crew.

Well... watch out on the road ladies and gents. Ya boy is now driving the fire engine...

That explains why I saw a fire engine with a "Student Driver" sticker.

EV fires suck lol

First in crew was there like an hour and a half before they called us for assistance, we were there another 3 hours, Hazmat was called, went thru as many SCBA Bottles as if we were on a structure fire, Chief eventually had us pull the car away from the building (so if it caught fire again, let it burn without spreading) and had a third crew babysit it till it finally went out on its own (after the previous hours of crawling around inside, underneath with hoses chasing the thermal runaway. Guess we did some good as it was smoking but never fully flamed up lol)

But EVs are supposed to generate way less atmospheric pollution 🤣

Hope you ALL filed Workman’s Comp/Hazardous Chemical Exposure Injury reports.

To be fair, they're fine.......... until they're on fire, then they're generally way more annoying than an ICE vehicle fire. Buuuuttt... I've also had as many rather annoying gasoline fire where the gas tank was full, but leaking, and making a nice burning pool that also wouldn't go out (doesn't help we don't carry any Class B Foam here, because of the whole "it's basically cancer" thing)

But yeah, even those usually weren't multi hour, multi company affairs where our OSHO Chief has to research whether it's safe to put our turnouts back into use after washing them with the same systems that are good to decon them after a regular fire, so there is that....

Tell that to the citizens in Moss Landing and surrounding areas… They are waking up to how deadly Green Energy is.
Here I thought you were going to go the how many Teslas have been returned because of Musk and DoGE 😆
