Hmm... turns out our PSAP wants to direct car crashes to EMS Dispatch...

Didn't see the crash itself, but the immediate aftermath, called 911 and actually asked for our Fire Dispatch lol, they asked if I was reporting an actual fire (which I guess makes sense from their point of view), said it was for a car crash, and they sent me to the EMSD instead (where I was on hold for like a min, and then they asked if I was calling for the accident at XYZ Intersection (I was.. guess I wasn't the first caller) and they just said yup, unit is on its way, and that was it. Couple min later, the ambulance showed up, they must be doing plenty of training cuz 4 guys hopped out, and at that point me and my friend were like "Wellp, we're just looky loos now, time to head off" (I didn't see the accident itself, so didn't have anything particular to report beyond what they were already getting from the drivers)

I have a chill job call volume wise. Our busiest unit averages four calls in 24 hours. A transport is 90-120 minute affair depending on the area so it’s not the slowest.

I’m going through a process with a job that is much busier. Like 11k calls between four stations but has a hospital in district so very short transports. I am not often bored where I currently am but I would be happy to run a few more calls. It’s also like 15k raise.

In the short term, it’s a no brainer. But in the long term I’m a little concerned about being that busy over a 20 year career.

Muse with me if you’ve been through something similar.

Ended up accepting a lateral position to work at this “busier” place. A fat raise and cutting my commute from an hour to 15 minutes did it. Culturally they seem to get it and the department seems a bit more developed and professional. They have 24/7 EMS supervisor positions to aspire to as well.

Sucks to be a probie again with no vacation, but no academy at least. I’m thinking this was the good choice. I’ll miss my crew though.
