Has anyone here been required to take the FEMA NIMS classes ? Its all disaster based training.

I was required to take these, yup. Quite quick, really.

ICS is used at all kinds of events - 4th of July, car accidents, whatever. It's very adaptable.

Yup. In my area most companies including my own require 100, 200, 700, 800, MCI Operations and WMD training

Level 2 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers have to take it for certification. Courses available
free online. http://training.fema.gov/IS/

I was told for AMR you have to have 100 200 700 800 as a requirement I don't know if its true but I ended up doing them in a couple days.

All of our fire and ambulance units here have taken the Nims courses and certifications. We constantly put it to use. One incident we had one year at Rodeo, there was a fire in town and burned into a power line knocking out power to the rodeo grounds. They kept running the rodeo, but the problem was when dark would descend we had to get 3,000 people evacuated from the stands, if the power did not come back on. While rodeo personnel were flipping out on what to do, we in the EMS crews stationed at the rodeo had a course of action set up and in place in 20 minutes, all because of the Incident Command System we continually practice and use. Fortunately we thru the grace its not on what you know but who you know had power restored and the Rodeo went on.

I was required to have 100, 200, 700, 701-704, and 800. I'm getting ready to take my 300 & 400 (why I don't know).

If i understand things correctly, you are not eligible for many federal grants if your employees are not trained in 100, 200 & 700.

This is kind of a big deal if you are trying to get some help buying a fleet of new narrowband radios or any other federal mandate.

1, 2, 7, & 8 yes.

I was required to take them all. Why did you have to remind me. I'm starting to twitch. ...............

I have 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800b, and 100HCB

I'll be honest though, the only two classes I thought were worth taking was 200 and 300. The others, while required, didn't enhance my knowledge (although 400 did show me how bureaucratic the system was, and how much paper we can waste during a major emergency).

These courses are basically 8 hours (each) of powerpoint hell. They are nearly useless.

I've taken those classes and then some. I think I'm up to about 50 of those FEMA classes. It's all pretty easy and some classes are actually interesting. I would like to take a 300 400 class one day.

I was required to take ICS 100 and 200 in training and I'm sure I'll have to take 700 800 and probably 3 and 400.

I like how catchy and easy to remember they made the names...

8 hours??? 300 is 24 hours, 400 is 16 hours, 200 was somewhere in between.

I wish I could have gotten away with them just being 8 hours each.

But I will say, they were great networking opportunities when taken away form your home agency.

Taken them all, not really a point after the first couple, they become self explanatory but no reason not to brush up incase you need it.

It's even worse than I thought it could ever be.
