Delaware Reciprocity - NREMT

SCEMS would've been my top choice, had it not been in DE...

In all seriousness, Delaware has spawned numerous inquiries, a handful of threads, and it still seems to keep many people in this field interested.

I certainly understand moving to a less than desirable area for the sake of a good system, but can't help thinking it's still a worthwhile relocation given its continuous appeal. That said, I'd still poke around before ever I seriously considered relocating.

I dropped everything and went to NYS and it worked out for me! Not in EMS full time though :(

Hey, if it is worthy enough for it to be mentioned in Wayne's World...then it is gold!

I didn't by knowing if I'd call it less than desirable. It's not like living in Death Valley. It's just a small, insular state. Flat. Lots and of corn and soybean farms. Not a lot to do, if you're looking for a lot of cultural diversity and big city types of restaurants and entertainment.

But, if you like the beach, fishing, hunting, close access to D.C. and Philly or you want to live in a relatively quiet spot, DE is a good fit. Nice people, good food, affordable living, great roads and infrastructure. All in all, a very decent place to live.

Well, it's no Bakersfield:). It actually sounds a lot like Bakersfield (minus the beaches being in your backyard).

Once ya do EMS full time out there, you'll realize why they all leave!
I hated NY. Glad to be out of there. Looking forward to leaving the rest of the northeast and applying to somewhere in DE/NC/SC or TX when jobs start opening up..

There's tons of jobs open. Why wait?

All three counties in DE have continuous recruitment. Everyone worth working for in NC is recruiting now or will be again in the next few months. SC is looking in the major metro areas. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting an open paramedic spot in Texas.

Finishing up both my degrees. Will graduate in May, so I figure I'll start applying in February/March. Was looking heavily at Wake Co, Durham Co, as well as Sussex County. I was originally looking at that Austin-Travis posting, but I don't think I'll end up going for that.

Don't forget Orange Co NC, home of UNC Chapel Hill!

For the record, I still like NJ's paramedic system, which (from everything I read on here) is ran very similar to how DE runs things, except you are hospital based instead of county based.

I will stand by something I said months ago: every paramedic job sucks, and every paramedic job is awesome, it doesn't matter where you go; it all depends on what you are looking for, and if what they are offering matches up with what you want in a career.

This is 100% true. It's gotta be right for you.

i will never go full time EMS, state LE pays too good+pension is too good/hard to come by these days. Only reason i said NY is because most other states don't have EMS through sheriffs dpt's, meaning county pay, meaning county pension and benefits. I am a firm believer of plan for the future before worrying about today.. I'm under 30, i'll work 2 jobs if i have to now, but when i become 50, I want to cruise into retirement. But you've had some very intelligent people post here. You could say service 1 is the best thing since sliced bread, and i could say it's the worst thing ever. If it works for you, great, if not simple as finding somewhere else.
Where in NY where you btw?

Are we talking full medic scope in the ED when not on an intercept car in NJ?

paramedics can't work in the ER due to the lobbying of the nursing unions.

Used to live in Rensselaer County. I'm guessing you're with the Albany County Sheriffs? They're the only upstate NY EMS agency run through a PD that I know of.
