    Best states for EMS?

Thank you, Fish. That's exactly what I meant. Ohio's a horrid state for EMS.

    Advanced EMT classes

Really now? You don't say. Ok then. What, exactly, is the national curriculum going to be for the new AEMT? IV, I assume? More drugs then the basic (nitro, aspirin, D50, morphine, narcan, albuterol breathing treatments, diphenhydramine, etc, etc, etc.), chest decompression. Any of the...

    Advanced EMT classes

Close enough for government work, but it's SLIGHTLY more complicated. There are a small handful of I/85 states out there (Ohio being one of them) so they are actually dropping the I/85 certification and going with the I/99 only certification. That's what the 'bridge' class is for. For that...

    Best states for EMS?

Ohio needs to be a lot closer to the top. ;) I've lived in Ohio for about 10 years now and the FF/EMT jobs are pretty few and far between. When one does appear, there's (almost) a riot with the applicants to get it. Dayton, technically, you don't have to be certified in anything, they'll...

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

Yeah. I remember them. I took my first written Basic test back in 2003 when it was still written. I don't remember it taking 3 months though. I think it was about 3 weeks between when I took it and when I found out I'd passed.

Poll about our participants' military status

That really depends on where ya live. I live right outside Dayton, OH and on Veterans Day there were all kinds of parades and celebrations honoring those of us that served. The elementary school my daughter goes too even had a celebration where they invited ALL the parents and gave veterans...

    Motorcycle EMS riders????

With a bike like that and roads like that, if I didn't kill myself I'd, at the least, do myself serious bodily injury. I'll stick to my bicycle. At least for now. maybe in a few years when I feel comfortable again on TWO wheels I'll reconsider a motorcycle.

In Case of Emergency USB Drives

Other then on the news and on the internetz I've never actually seen one of these. Although if we did come across a patient that had one, I'm sure it would be useful. We do have a laptop in our ambulance that has a couple USB ports and it appears as though it's 'plug and play.'

    Emt city sued!

I realize this is certainly NOT the popular opinion, but the article does kinda imply my point. "It's the old media classing with the new." It's not so much the lawyers that are 'the bad guys' but the CLIENT. See, before a lawyer can sue anyone, they have to have a CLIENT to actually pays...

What does your agency ride in...

Wake County have enough mass casualty incidents that you all need a BUS to transport them all?

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

I used: http://www.emt-national-training.com/ Paid the three month subscription fee since I didn't know how long it would take me to actually get to the test. Glad I did. I ended up using a good two months of it.

40 things I would like to say out loud at work …

Most of these could apply for ANY job, not just EMS. My personal favorite is 24. Do I look like a people person?

how long did it take you to get hired?

**laugh** I'll let you know when that happens. ;) Srsly. Depending on what part of the country you live in, EMT's are a nickel a dozen. I've been a volunteer now for 7 years. I applied at several IFT / private ambulance companies last year and none of them called me back. I gave up.

    You know your an EMT....

when almost every damn application in your phone is either a medical application or dispatch application. I actually programmed our local hospital contact numbers into my personal phone a couple of weeks ago because the phone in the medic died on a call.

Calls In The Middle Of The Night

I agree with MOST of what you said, but I'm not sure I agree with this. I believe the majority of calls a Basic can handle on their own, but there's quite a bit of calls that require WAY more then a Basic can provide. Any good Basic worth their salt can tell what calls are out of their realm...

    Which school is better?!

I've taken Sinclair CC's EMT-B REFRESHER course a couple of times and I love it. That's what I was using to keep my NREMT up to date. I've also sat in on some of their Basic and Paramedic lectures for 'continuing education' time and I really enjoy their instructors. NONE of them do full time...

    Situation tonight, was I wrong?

I wouldn't say you were WRONG. It's not a choice I would have made though. Our local protocol says that if major trauma and arrest (IE, car accident), do not start CPR. Unless they are already in our care and arrest before arrival to the hospital. Actually, even outside our local protocol I...

    NREMT new patch survey

Yeah, I wasn't a big fan of the rocker either. I wasn't thrilled with the word 'certified' either, but the more I thought about it the more I'm ok with it. We sign up to take a class (or test) and we're REGISTERED. We actually take the class (or test) and pass, we're 'certified.' I think it...

    California to Maryland

Having been born and raised in MD, I'd have to agree. MD State Govt. SUCKS. So many ridiculous 'rules and regulations' that it makes the best part of being from MD is that I'm FROM MD and don't live there now. With that said though, I'd dump Ohio in a heartbeat and move back.

    Harassment in EMS

The way I see it is you have two options. You can either go to the Board and voice your complaints. EN-MASS. Or you can walk away and find another job / place to run. Srsly. We recently had (essentially) the same problem with our Chief. We voiced our concerns to our Board, en-mass, and...
