    Nitro before IV

I guess my question for those that give the Nitro if the BP is "high enough" is What do you consider "High Enough?" 140/90? Even if they have a 25% drop they will still be at 105/... Is that high enough? Where do you draw the line? Do you ask your patients if they have had Nitro and...

    Paramedic & Medic Students...Practicing IV/IM/SQ/ID

We did not practice on each other. We used the arm a few times and did all of our live sticks in the clinical setting. We were required to have 10 first time attempt successful sticks in the hospital setting (ER or OR) prior to being allowed to start our EMS clinicals.

    Thanks To All My Friends....

I just want to thank all of you for your educational e-mails over the past year. I am totally screwed up now and have little chance of recovery. I no longer open a public bathroom door without using a paper towel. Or have them put lemon slices in my ice water without worrying about the...

Medical Ethics Committee Overrides Mothers Wishes

That was basically my same arguement to another Medic I work with who was appalled that this happened. This was the right decision for this baby. I have NO ISSUE with it. I am just extremely curious about it since it is just not something we deal with daily. More than one person has...

Medical Ethics Committee Overrides Mothers Wishes

Well he had an Anoxic Brain Injury after that cardiac arrest a few hours after birth. He had all kinds of ICD codes on his chart (Anoxic Brain Injury, Seizure Disorder, PPH to name a few). His journey to his angels was just a matter of time. His mother was the one to take care of him at...

    BLS Recruiting

You all need to step back a moment, take a deep breath, and bring that back in line with what the thread is about. This WILL NOT turn into a Student vs. EMT/Medic fight.

    Omg dont touch me!

No so fast ma'am. That is the textbook/correct answer for the state test. If you are transferring a patient from one medical facility to another you can get by with a white copy/or no copy. Thats what protocols and medical control are for. I once had a daughter tackle me to the ground as I...

    Omg dont touch me!

I would rather make the attempt to get that hospice patient to their home to be surrounded by loved ones in an eviroment they loved. I have transported patients with respirations of 4-6..... one very memorable man who died as soon as we put him in his bed at home..... people who were not...

    Omg dont touch me!

So if you would not have minded holding her hand, and she was obviously scared and near the end, why would not take her hand in yours and hold it. Its obvious she was in desperate need of some physical comfort, instead you hid behind her and pretended not be be aware of her needs. Sure you...

Do you ever get used to the dead people?

For me the hard part is getting the "I'm sorry to have to tell you ..... " speech out and still make it sound like I care about their personal agony. Sounds harsh, I know. But to know me is to understand me. After calling DOA 7 times in 5 shifts, I got a little perturbed that it just seemed...

    Arghh... I Missed it, Mateys!

ARRRRGH!!!! I called my dispatchers at 0600 and told the it was their mission to use the words "Arrrgh Matey" at some point during the day. We managed to get a few, "Pirate Talk" trasmissions out without being to obvious, before my supervisor called me and asked whats with our voice. I just...
