Online Medical Consult for Activated Charcoal with Poison Control

I'm taking NREMT in 2 weeks but also have an in class final practical tomorrow. Unfortunately nobody has gone over how to do a medical consult with poison control for activated charcoal. I would just like for somebody to go over the steps and proper order of how things should be said. If anybody knows how the instructors for NREMT would like to hear it that would be great. I'm fine with medical assessments but just need help with the consult. Any tips and tricks for assessments are always appreciated though.

Poison control is not part of NREMT. Poison control is a tool you can use to get more information, but they are NOT a substitute for your protocols or standing orders.

If you believe a patient needs charcoal, and your local protocols require a consult for that medication, call your base hospital, give a base report and ask for orders for the appropriate dose of charcoal.

It is currently required in Maryland (at least for the class) that both Posion Control and the ED be online for consult for activated charcoal. But my main concern is that I have not been walked through a consult to the ED yet.

Well it's not part of NREMT. So don't worry about it for your test. A base call in is nothing more than you giving the MICN a patient report and asking "can I give this medication"

Wouldn't this be a GREAT question for your instructors, the people you pay to instruct you?

I mean if you feel you need to know something and no one has taught it to you....why are you not asking there? And why wait until now?
