Because it is in a very lipid soluble emulsion and is also suspetiable to microorganism growth. I think it also has a lot of calories and fat.

Define "common", otherwise I'd say Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) and malaria (Plasmodium sp.). Very common worldwide and both buggers to kill IN VIVO. (TB pretty tough in vitro too).
