800 numbers on Ambulances......

Anyone else think 800 numbers blasted all over rigs are extremely tacky?

Only ones I see are "911"

What I think is tacky is when an ambulance has "Ambulance" written on it, as if people didn't already know. Cops cars don't, fire engines don't.

Because, you know, "Ambulance" makes all the difference! Remove it and people will stop pulling to the right and letting us by! Oh wait...

Hahahaha true.....also, how about when companies put "AMBULANCE" on the front of the hood when it should really read "ECNALUBMA" (Backwards) so people can read it from their rear view mirrors......

Our trucks (private service) have our phone number and web address on the back in small letters and numbers, nothing tacky or anything. It's rumored that the phone number is there as a way to prevent crappy driving...cut someone off and they have a direct line to dispatch.

Also having the truck say ambulance on it is state and possibly a federal KKK requirement. Plus police cars often say police on them and fire trucks often say fire don't they? I guess I don't see an issue there.

Let me specify what I'm referring to..... it looks tacky on shady, wheelchair-van converted into ambulance rigs from Los Angeles County that primarily transport dialysis patients.

My agency puts their web address.

Yes, Police cars say "Police", not "Police Car" or "Patrol Car". Ambulances say "Ambulance" as opposed to, say, "EMS".

I should get a magnetic sign and put "Horizontal Taxi" on it when I get on shift >_>

Have you seen the Borg's Dallas operation? Literally gigantic refrigerator magnets pasted over "NorthStar".

We have the phone number and website on the truck. It's advertising, and as private business that's how we stay in business.

Nope, then again, I haven't been east of Arlington since September after leaving the VZ :P

Geez, even I've made to FW a couple of times :p.

I probably shouldn't talk crap about anyone's trucks though, considering the shade of our ambulances can be seen from space...

If the company's name is "___ Ambulance Service" then it's no more tacky than a fire engine having "____ Fire Department" on the side of it or a police car having "____ Police Department."

Is silly to me.

When they're on the opposite side of a divided highway going the other direction, yes.

I've yet to figure out why.

Wait.. You mean we're not supposed to go code 3 on the opposite side of a divided highway? :P

Maybe they know who's driving the rig?

Not only is it extremely tacky, but it ought to be illegal.

Required on all state inspected Ambulances in the State of NJ. Must have Ambulance on the back and front

Our rigs have the company website on each side in small (relatively speaking) print.

They also have the "Emergency? Dial 911 Police Fire EMS" magnets on the rear quarterpanels.

Oh, and we have AMBU ford LANCE on the lip of the hood :D
