What features do you love about the watch you use on duty? I'm looking to buy one and would love some input. The one I'm looking at has white numbers/second hand on a black background. I'm thinking this would be super easy to see, day/night. Thanks in advance!

Watches with sweeping second hands are good for doing vital signs because you don't have to also count the seconds, you just watch for the second hand to go 1/4, 1/2 or all the way around. I normally use a digital watch and it's not that difficult for me to use, though it can (apparently) be for some to use when taking vitals. What watch do I use? My own watches are usually less than $30. A couple watches I've used were on sale for less than $20.

I like my Marathon Adanac navigator II. It's digital, waterproof to 20 bar and has second indicators that circle the face of the watch much like an analog. And it can be found for cheap (<$30). http://www.lionseek.com/images/big/watches/48/362427-fs-nib-marathon-adanac-navigator-ii.jpg

I'm also a big fan of my casio pathfinder paw1100 and citizen knighthawk (although the citizen is too nice for daily wear IMO) both are solar and the casio syncs atomic regularly and has auto luminescence so you can activate the backlight hands free when needed which comes in handy.

Can't go wrong with a g shock though.

Casio makes some great utilitarian watches. I'd just advise keeping it inexpensive for on-duty watches (my rugged Casio watch was less than $20), since you never know where vomit/blood/other fluids may end up!

I kept breaking the cheaper watches that I bought (even if just a small piece is broken on it, I consider it broken).

I caved in about a year ago and went with a G-Shock. So far no issues at all with it. It's pricey (~$150) but the thing has been through hell and back without even a scratch on the face.

This, especially if you spend any amount of time in the woods/mountains/desert/etc. A step up from a G-Shock in quality, features and price.

I've had a cheap analog watch for a while and it works fine, but I feel having a digital watch could be really useful. Mainly I wish I had a stopwatch timer with lap splits. I think I would use that all the time for keeping track of when meds were given, when CPR was started, how long it's been since X took place, etc. It's never convenient to write these things down in the middle of a call, and you can make mental notes to yourself but it would be really nice to be able to create a physical record just by pushing a button on my watch.

$35 TimeX Ironman series watch. Had one for a year of abuse including shock, depth, and salt water. Seal gve last month. Got another.

I use a gshock most days, and a Nixon Unit on other days. Both are bulletproof watches

go to K-mart (or your local discount store), but a cheap digital watch that is under $15, and has a big face, and has a glow in the dark backing.

watches in EMS get broken, lost or damaged all too often.

I have a Sunto Core. I didn't get it for work, but I wear it there. Take care of anything and it'll last a while. And clean it, please.

This logic is so silly. So, break cheap watches and keep replacing them, and spend hundreds of dollars over your career, or just buy a $100 Gshock that will last 10-20yrs. Same with sunglasses.

Awesome. Thanks everyone. I ended up getting something really similar to the pic Mr Jones posted for $30. I like having the analog second hand, but I like having the digital ability and stopwatch capability that J B mentioned.
