I need some advice in a hurry, please!

I am scheduled to take an ambulance driver written test today to get the certification. However, I just recieved one of those automated tickets from a red light camera.

Should I need to wait until I resolve the ticket before applying for the ambulance certification? Will the ticket come through as double points if I become an ambulance driver today? I plan on contesting the ticket.

I live in California. Thanks for any help!

Go take the test

No ambulance driving for you, comeback 2 years.

Be sure to read all the fine print as there is a growing trend of these sort of tickets becoming unenforceable, especially in and around Los Angelus.

I'm not in a joking mood. After taking the EMT class, paying fees for immunizations, paying fees for fingerprinting (twice, once for class and again for the DMV cert), paying fees at the DMV, and facing a $460 ticket for making a slow, safe right hand turn that did no harm to anybody...I'm in a pretty bad mood right now.

So, helpful and serious answers only please.

Yes. Unfortunately, you will not be allowed to drive ambulances, cement mixers, camels or any vehicle that emits a noise, such as an ice cream truck.

Good luck in the future.

Sorry to say that you'll more then likely have to get finger printed one more time for your county/state EMT cert.

Your fine to take the DMV test. The only thing that the red light ticket may effect is how easy it is to get hired on some places (not sure if a red light ticket counts as a point on your driving record or not).

Don't forget your $60 administrative fee for traffic school for this $100 [base] fine violation.

Seriously:
The ambulance driver certificate is more of an endorsement than anything else. You still have a regular (class C), non-commercial drivers license. As such, you still have the opportunity to take traffic school and remove the point if you haven't taken traffic school in the past 18 months.

Relax.

If an EMT course, a couple of administrative fees, and a redlight ticket get you all worked up you may struggle in the world of emergency medicine.

Take a deep breath.

Generally red light camera tickets are not actual moving traffic tickets like those witnessed by a police officer (at least in Texas) they are handled more like a local ordinance fine. You'll probably be fine.

In California the tape is reviewed by a police officer and a citation is issued just like if it was witnessed by a police officer. It's still a $100 base fine ($430 give or take given penalty fees and assessments) and a point on the license. There are a few procedural defenses that might be available (i.e. signs either at all major entrances to the city or in each direction at the light, contractual limitations, etc), assuming the car is in your name.

Bummer! But does it count for points on your license? It didn't here even when they did issue "real" tickets. They were ruled illegall here and all the tickets got thrown out and cameras removed.

Here in Canada speeding tickets issued through photo radar do not get demerits off your licence.

If you got the ticket in LA County just ignore it.

Negative Ghostrider. That's a quick way to pickup another charge and $500+ (including a $300 civil penalty). It's LA City that is dropping enforcement and followup, not LA County.

A lot of the contracts (since private companies are contracted to run the video system) out here are illegal or proper warning periods aren't being followed and as people are starting to challenge them a lot of cities are starting to drop their programs.

It's too bad really I like the program but only when properly run. It reduced major accidents at intersections here in Houston although there was a slight increase in minor rear end fender benders.

Correct me if I am wrong, but a right on red in ca is legal, assuming you stopped first.

One of the things that made everyone mad here in Houston was that the cameras often ticketed you for making a right on red after stopping. Like I said the program was not as well run as it should have been.
