    Texas HEMS

Native Air (Air Methods) has several openings at their El Paso base. They fly a PC-12 (Lifeguard 8) and a Bell 412 w/ hoist (Native 23). Their mission profile is interesting and unique in the fashion that their rotor flys double or triple medic. Fixed wing flys standard Medic / RN. Pay is on the...

    FP-C vs CCP-C

How is this any different from the CEN, CCRN, or CFRN exams? They certainly are not viewed in the same light as your opinion of the FP-C, yet are equaly as demanded and viewed as reputable credentials. Can you offer a logical explanation for this?

    Pain management in RSI

Anectine is a depolorizing NMBA. Analgesia is an absolute with appropriate sedation in the RSI'd patient. Outside of it being a basic standard of care, could you imagine having a large piece of plastic shoved down into your trachea with mechanical changes in pressure throughout your chest...

California EMSA online newsletter: New Paramedic category, bigger scopes of practice

Interesting read! A step forward for Cali, but still worlds behind other areas of the country. Hopefully the transition will lead to other improvements in the future.

    Levophed/Norepinephrine?

I was reading thought the thread and wondering when someone was going to bring up this truth! Neosynephrine is the way to go. It's safer, more effective on those acidic septic patients, and easier to administer than the typical multitude of pressor drips we commonly see. Plus I've rarely seen...

Not sure if BLS question, but how do you check the neurological status of a person?

Good info in your post about CN testing! I'm curious though as to why you'd say that DTRs are seldom important and not done. In the case of an OB patient, they are an absolute must.

Socal part time for Experienced Paramedic

OP, you should look into REACH, we do part-time. They are currently looking for flight medics at our Oceanside, Thermal, and Imperial bases.

    VITAMINC mnemonic

ATCEMS wants you to memorize and utilize this?!?!? WTH for??!!!!! There is minimal practical purpose for a Paramedic to use this and really none for an EMT-B. One would think that ATCEMS has higher priorities than this for its incoming field staff.

Need Medic Job in Texas (moving back)

That may be a bit on the high end for a Paramedic here in Texas, but not completely unheard of. I think the more difficult aspect will be the schedule, 5 - 8's is not a common schedule. Flexibility is a must, good luck.

Nope. We use the Crossvent 2+ and 2i on our ground and flight isolettes. No assumptions here, only speculated perceptions from you my friend. I am well aware of the ECMO process and it's advantages to the various populations. The previous program that I performed ECMO with used a variety of...

I don't remember verbalizing any level of downplay or equality. Again, no where in my post was weakness or a lack of collaboration mentioned. In fact, the opposite is my position. During transport though, the patient is in our care, therefore we need to ensure the proper operation of our...

I see two problems here. One is a geographical problem that is overgeneralized. Perhaps some non-pro EMS areas such as Cali restrict the function of a medic in the critical and specialty care environment. Other areas have no such restrictions and have successfully operated paramedic led teams in...
