    Your perfect ambulance

I agree completely with ridryder about the attendant seat. It's pretty much useless except for not dying in a crash. sure you can get to the "action area" and the cp, but there's no patient access. I know that our ambulances have those digital readouts for o2 pressure, room temp, and other...

    Making your job easier??

I would like to see a better alternative to the stair chairs, something that would actually roll down the stairs would be nice. Making an automatic bp cuff or pulseox unit that will work on a bumpy ambulance ride would be incredible. make an EKG work better and you are a god. Heres a...

    Your perfect ambulance

Ridryder got me thinking in another post... Ambulances are probably made by people who don't have to work in them, so what would it be like if the EMS community described their dreambulance? Time to shine folks

    EMT Seating

the throne I personally like the CPR seat off to the side of the stretcher opposite the bench. It's got pads all over, it's well enclosed, it provides excellent patient access, and plus it is close to almost all the cabinets and gauges. I love that seat like it's one of my own  If you...

    AED on Wet Patient

Aed madness!!! I was told a few interesting things regarding AED use in my class. Apparently the new ACLS protocol for AED use is that after analysis and during the charging phase of the defibrillator it is recommended to do compressions until the "all clear for shock" call is given. During a...

    N.J.A.C. 8:40A Regulations

Don't Be a Hater Now... Why is every ALS user getting all fussy over BLS crews being able to place esophageal tubes and multilumen tubes in *dead* patients. While it is true that it is possible to wind up doing an ETI with a combitube, it is NOT possible with an LMA. And it's hard to say that...

    Weight Lifting Question

I don't lift weights. I lift myself. As far as building strength and endurance goes it is the best thing all around. Lifting weights is good for weight lifting competitions, however the body mass you add to yourself makes you slightly less... mobile. I can do 30 pull-ups, while some football...

EMT-B/BLS care is there a point??

Inb4 attacks on anyone at all, I would like to say that medics and basics are team mates. They should act as such. While I enjoy a good argument, dying patients can really ruin everybody's day. Try to remember that medics are full of medical knowledge, but basics are the ones who have to assist...

    What do you think?

Maybe where you live, but our squad has seen medic delays of over 30 minutes while carrying critical patients. I just read a long instructional article on use of the combitube, and it seems like a viable option if using a standard ET tube is too risky for a B. The LMA also seems like a good tool...

    He has no pulse!

Eureka! Thanks a TON guys! I thought it was posterior to the malleolus rather than inferior to it. Just to get a good shot at finding it, I laid down for a bit and then jumped up and down a couple times before checking. I nearly passed out, but I found the pulse!

    He has no pulse!

No matter how hard I search, I cannot find a posterior tibial pulse. Is the pulse mythical or does it really exist? How do you locate it?

What shape should EMTs/Medics Be In

Here's a good idea... Everyone should try to stay in good shape. How you do it is up to you. I like to climb and mountain bike, it keeps me in shape for verticle rescue and keeps me strong and flexible. Also, chicks dig daredevils (and powertools). There is no reason not to exercise...

    First call as EMT-B

Not really a call I went to National Youth Leadership Training over the last summer. This was before I had any medical training other than some first aid. We were having a competition in the dining hall, when one of the counselors runs out of the kitchen screaming and getting blood EVERYWHERE...

New EMT-Bs from NJ: I need your help!

As soon as I finished my EMT-B test, I just KNEW there would be some sort of problem getting my scores. Now three weeks have past and of course, no scores! I had my SSN and my address and phone numbers and everything on that test, and now I'm worried that it's lost  I've sent E-Mails...

    Temperature

What? What? In the butt? You can only use a rectal or IR thermometer on infants. Keep that in mind because it is VERY BAD to take an oral on infants in most cases, mostly because they don't cooperate and it's hardly accurate.
