Videos for EMT school

Hey guys. I am a part time instructor at an EMT school. Sometimes I sub, do skills, teach refreshers, cpr, I like to stay well rounded. When I teach classes though, I like to show a video at the end of every 10 minute break and coming back from lunch. Usually, it's something funny, not necessarily educational, but I try to keep it related to the material. For example, before peds, I'll show the baby Pantera video, which is a 1 year old banging on a tiny drum set with the help of his dad. It relaxes the students, and puts them in a good material retaining mood. Sometimes it's family guy clips too. Just found this new video of the spider in the phone trick "I told you not to do that" so I'll be showing that one for the environmental emergencies, or psychotic;). For the communications chapter, I show a batt chief running a structure fire from the driver's seat of his vic (very good job), then show the aurora shooting video which is audio only of the emergency traffic between the depts (very bad job) so they can grasp how it should be done. These are just examples.

So, I'm looking for any videos that you don't mind sharing with students that are educational. Maybe something that is very blunt, or something that is more subtle to kick start the EMT mentality of looking deeper than what's on the surface. How about something that we can discuss after? These videos DO NOT need to be rated g. They can range from g and go all the way to nc17! Ok, kidding, R is the limit. That should do it. These students need some videos that will keep them motivated, interactive, and entertained, instead of the monotonous power points!

My EMT instructor showed childbirth in different traditions. It's all on YouTube.

My first responder instructor showed us seizures so we would recognize them. They're also on YouTube.

Also look on this form for a thread called "what cardiac arrest looks like" or something along those lines.

It's a great educational video that shows some cardiac arrest patients may have seizure like activity or general muscle movements.

Look up Chris Solomons Rescue on YouTube - I always play it when I teach CPR - it's a great discussion piece about how AED and CPR is in real life vs on a mannekin

For Airway:
Video:
(Distressed breathing), talking about seesaw breathing, skin color, retractions, airway positioning, etc.
Video:
(Hockey player has throat cut by other player's skate. Bloody, but good introduction to talking about threats to airway, suction, etc.)
Simulation:
http://vam.anest.ufl.edu/checkout/check-sirb.html
BVM Simulator (how it works with oxygen, how to check out, etc.)
http://vam.anest.ufl.edu/simulations/simrrhythm.php BVM rhythm.
Patient Assessment/Cardiac Emergencies:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w32PUDL2lb8 (Discussion of general impression of a patient who looks like crap, skin, wincing in pain, quick progression from talking "Your ECG looks a bit dodgy", to cardiac arrest, discussion of rapid identification, quick/good CPR, quick defib, ROSC, after-care, transport. Awesome example of teamwork, calmness, communication, etc.) Also good discussion about what's going on with his arms when compressions are started.
OR:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv-uWXo4xzU (also a video of ongoing MI that turns in to cardiac arrest, but a bit more difficult to unpack, discuss)

(AHA Go red for women, funny, awesome discussion about presentation of MIs in women vs men, denial of symptoms, etc.)

LVAD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsHpKbwX1Yg AND https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBxDhUzSrsk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xre92Ap0vrA (How to set up a neb)

(Croup)

Mechanical CPR devices:
(Capt. Rothman from Natick, MA FD gives awesome explanation of why we want to minimize interruptions in compressions), demonstration of Auto-Pulse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIDJk3fA3sU (Lucas), discussion of pros/cons of each device

I have many, many more where this came from, for nearly every lecture/content area of the EMT course.

Freakin. Awesome! All of these are really good! Obviously, @medicdan has everyone beat so far, but they're all very useful. Except the Mechanism Of Injury lol I show that one, but it's not very educational. I use it to lighten up the mood. Now @medicdan when you say you have many more, is this an offer?! I just don't have the time to look through youtube and spend hours watching videos to find out if they're relevant or not. Thanks again & keep em coming!

Also, I clipped this out of Bringing Out the Dead a while back and I rather think it would make some nice points for an airway module. Something to do with intubating people to death...

I think this is the limit of what I can post from here. Let me know if you are looking for videos on a particular subject, I likely have some, stored away in one of my presentations...
