Substitutes for Epipen for Allergic Reactions in the Field/Wilderness

I work for a national company as an independent contractor, usually on my own in the field or wilderness, not on an ambulance. My medical direction is non-existent when out on a job. My question: Is there a substitute for an EpiPen that may make a difference when a pt is having a severe allergic reaction in a rural or wilderness environment? I have seen some general references about using Benadryl in these situations and want to see if those of you who know much more than me agree. If so, what would an appropriate adult dose be in an emergency situation? If Benadryl is not an appropriate option, is there any other OTC product that can help? Thank you in advance.
 
Epinephrine is the mainstay treatment. EpiPens are popular since they are easy to use and portable.

Benadryl is a secondary treatment and is typically given in the IV/IM route at 25-50mg.
 
There was so much education required and additional questions from me, I simply replied in the most succinct way possible. OP, take this advice, go educate yourself on anaphylaxis, the physiological aspects of everything which is taking place, and then learn why epi would be the ONLY first line option for severe allergic reaction in a remote environment.
 
The only acceptable substitution for an EpiPen in cases of anaphylaxis, is a vial or ampoule of Epinephrine 1:1 and a one ML syringe

Not to put too fine a point on the topic or needlessly overly technical...going to anyway....you could also slam 3 mls of 1:10000 epi bristojet IM. Cheaper than an epi pen too.

And a NEEDLE! You forgot the needle....oh, and the filter needle for initial aspiration. Oh, alcohol prep too! Mayve a bandaid or 2x2 and some coban! :) :) LOL
