what are people's opinions of NREMT???? many think it is BS to have it with all its CE requirements. It is a testing corporation although I know they do other things

I think the NREMT plays a pivotal role in informing standards of education requirements and facilitating reciprocity between states.

I think they're also a strong advocacy organization for the profession.

I have my NREMT, and the only reason I have kept it up is... well, I don't know why. I got it when I moved from NJ to NC, because I thought it would make the transfer easier, but it turned out to be a non-issue. And I've kept it up for no good reason. When my county switched to NREMT standards for CE, it was just easy. But I might let it expire, just because. no good reason to keep it up

I like the standardized EMS certification exam, because (in theory) everyone passed the same baseline exam, so the educational baseline is the same (in theory); but the CE is annoying, especially for those who don't work EMS full time.

yep it is OUR medical license CE's are hard to keep up I know many who let it lapse because of it. A refresher and CE's?? too much Do you know of any other healthcare profession that has to do as much??? then agency affiliation and medical director signoff. Too much A friend Florida said it was easy. send CEUs and payment and you get license. Ex wife is an RN and that's how it was with her.

Is it the NREMT, testing, or CE that you think many people are against?
CEs, affiliation, and medical director sign off. No other medical profession has to do all that. CE & refresher is a bit much and all this dividing up hours into different categories is kind of tedious. From what I have been told, it doesn't help much for reciprocity in other states.

I found those things inconvenient, too, but I didn't think it was too much to do. It was hard for me to retain knowledge that I didn't use for years or even months -- e.g., sick neonates, high-risk maternities, mixed or exotic ODs, bizarre MOIs. If ambiguous presentations, uncommon etiologies, or forgotten pearls lowered the odds of favorable outcomes, I felt the difference could be recent CE, some of which was too poorly constructed to be helpful. As for the NREMT, they could have made the process easier.

agreed. could be easier and yes I believe in CEs and yes recent stuff that is useful. We need to make our profession better. 35 yrs and going

I have over 30 hours (and going) of free CE via NREMT and NAEMSE so far. Add BLS recert and a skills sheet sign off by ANY EMT and I pretty much don’t pay more than $25 (tax deductible) every two years.

It’s not hard and requiring CE does improve knowledge.

I keep mine because it costs me $1.33 a month. My state allows me to recertify my state if I have a current nremt without needing to send in education. And if rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Who knows what reciprocity will look like in the future.

A refresher is not required. For the EMT level all that is required is a total of 40 hours of CEs in some very broad general topics every 2 years. That is 20 hours a year or maybe 2 hours a month. There are plenty of free locations for CEs hours and they are all online which makes it even easier.

Putting the hours into NREMT is also a very easy process and takes a couple of minutes to upload the hours including scanning in photocopies of the actual cert.

The medical director sign off: your company should have it set up where all your medical director receives a message and logs into NREMT and clicks approve.

Pretty much all medical professionals require some sort of CE hours.

Saying it’s too much or it’s too hard really isn’t a valid excuse if you are still practicing in the field.
