lets talk about gloves....

I second the Aloetouch. Basically, any of the thin, stretchy nitriles are good. when they start getting thick, they're not as stretchy, so, they fit a smaller range of hands. At least, that's been my experience. Also, the I've never torn a stretchy nitrile, but the thicker, not stretch gloves, yeah, I've torn them.

When you change gloves you prevent carrying your stuff or another pt's stuff to your current pt as well as covering your own little grabbers. Kapish?;)

You guys know my take on latex allergies. We still use them and after twenty years still no allergic reactions except one caregiver, and then never demonstrated.

Sorry, you must have misunderstood me. I was ranting earlier, and its easy to get the wrong idea. I was commenting on the big picture, saying gloves are gloves, as long as I have them (and use them), I dont (or shouldn't) care what kind.
Sidenote: Am I correct in remembering that the spread of MRSA, VRE, et al in SNFs is attributed to CNAs not changing their gloves between patients...?

Well for me, a glove that rips on scene (no good). A glove that is to thick to feel a pulse or feel a vein(no good).

So yes, they do matter to me.

On some brands of latex I turn the powder or whatever dark brown after about five minutes, grosses my cohorts out. Since I also corrode watch backs and eyeglass frames, I figure it's a warning of some sort.

Maybe you're just a superhero..... CORROSIVEMAN!

Used to kill digital watches too. EMP MAN?

Do nitrile gloves withstand solvents better, like polish, gasoline, JP-4?

I use them when working on the cars. Never had one eaten away by anything!

I think that you'll find mechanics have been using nitrile longer than EMS.

I'm having a problem finding gloves (disposable) We use nitrile only in our service. The smalls don't fit. The mediums are huge, like fall off, cant feel thru them huge. I need like a small-fat, or a medium-short. The small latex were perfect, there just isnt enough give in the small nitrile for my chubby little man-like fingers.

I think we use McKesson right now, but I will be pleading to use a diffferent brand if only I can find one to recommend!

Contact vendors and sales reps and ask for samples. Recently one of our guys can back from a training seminar with samples of different sizes and manufacturers for us to try.

You would wear latex gloves with nitrile over them!;)

But what happens when you need to pick your nose??

Here we are able to get supplier to send over a half dozen of each type so you can have a look see and then order the box, may i suggest getting on to your supplier and ask if this is possible?

Ah yes, gloves....

Hi Erin! When I have to order supplies, and am curious about different gloves, I will ask the sales rep to send several different brands of sample gloves. This way I can get an idea of what is a better product and not have to waste money buying something that does not work. I have a latex allergy. This is the brand that we use here. Kimberly-Clark Purple Nitrile powder free exam gloves. Hope this helps! :)

I dig the purple nitrile gloves, or the supreno short cuff.

And yes, I am allergic to latex, as confirmed by bloodwork. I breakout, and get itchy.

We use the Kimberly Clark Sterling Nitrile. I like them better than the purple nitrile because they seem a bit finer but equally strong. I also get a better fit.

Yes, those are them. Sterling, Could not remember the name!

thanks for the tips... I'm gonna see if they will request some samples before I buy my own!!

And, EMT-Student, I disagree. Gloves arent just gloves, when they dont fit. I probably have 1 full inch of glove hanging which then has to be bunched down so that I can feel a pulse or a vein to start an iv. Its not comfy to work with a bunch of extra glove bunched down my fingers

We have been using the Kimberly Purple Nitriles for as long as I can remember. About 6 months ago, we did a field eval with the grey ones, however most of out staff didnt like them for a variety of reasons. I wear a Large in the purples and they fit perfectly. When I tried on the thinner Grey ones, the Large didnt fit me without a good amount of tugging and adjusting. I tried on an XL and it was baggy at the finger tips. Other complaints (not just mine) were size differences, odd texture, too thin, tear more easily than the purple gloves...

I hate the latex gloves, funny smell sometimes, just dont like them. When I was working at AMR, I aquired my own purple nitrile gloves because they had either latex or cheap nitriles depending on how low supplies were.

I have seen the opposite with the grey ones. If you wear a large in one brand, you would wear a medium in the greys. I have never had any trouble getting them on. The only time I had any tear, was when it got caught on some metal.

The service I work for switched to what I call "deli gloves". They are those transparent nitrile ones that resemble those thin plastic things you see in food service. I *HATE* them with a passion. None of the sizes fit appropriately and the slightest tension rips them to shreds. Over the past 5 years, I said I wouldn't get picky and use what was offered but I drew the line at those awful things

I know what you mean... latex gloves where the best!
