So Monday is my first day at PRN in East LA, CA. I got some boots yesterday and still need a watch before then. I already picked up my uniforms as well. What else should I do to prepare for my first day? Do I need anything else?

My current list is as follows:
-watch
-uniform/boots
-lunch
-pen

*Thank you for any help

Stethoscope, any type/brand as you don't know the hygiene habits of the person who used the truck scope before you did

doughnuts...

A good attitude.

No matter how much you know, you know nothing.

Shears are nice to add, but not necessarilly a RIGHT NOW necessity.

However, pens. You never know when your one pen is going ot grow legs and walk.

I'm the biggest pen stealer on this planet, I don't know how it happens but I come home with tons of them.

Something to read.

I like to read something unrelated at work.

And a vest or is that south LA?

On the first day, I'd bring something at least tangentially related so that you look motivated and focused. A copy of JEMS, a science textbook, something by Oliver Sacks... that still gives you a lot of options.

I wouldn't bring my EMT textbook, though, in case someone takes it as showing that you didn't already study. You never know what kind of person you'll be working with.

I've often brought cookies or something for my new coworkers, as well.

Have some granola bars or something quick yet healthy with you in a pants pocket or fanny pack so if you are to busy to stop for a meal. Probably bring a bottled water or two as well. Nothing worse than getting so hungry and thirsty that you can no longer focus on your patients.

Have a spare uniform in your car so you can change if the the crap hits you rather than the fan.

congratulations. your list looks good, as said, PENS, boots, book/mag, good attitude other than that you wont need much else, maby lunch money. PRN does only BLS IFT so you can leave the shears/penlights/hemostat/rickey rescue garb at home. the rig stethoscope will suffice, i would wipe it before you put it in your ears. again congratulations it is a tough job market out there.

You mean she doesn't need one of these?

WOW that is even more rickey rescue than i had imagined, where can we get one of those, it even holds the stethoscope... on second though i dont want to know, dont say a word about where to get one of these, the "where do i put my stethoscope/penlight/carabiner shears/ hands when i am on scene" threads keep me entertained. if every EMT had one of these we could start solving real problems like world peace... JK, i vote that we should all wear fanny packs, bright blue ones.

Pens, boots, lunch money, cheap steth (at first), sense of humor. Something to look busy and studious. snacks/water. Sense of Humor.

Oh, and remember to wear your uniform...

on our begining of tour checklist it asks if you have scope pen and watch you will use all these sometime during a tour everything else is optional

+1 about the pens, i would bring a bunch of them, i always end up loosing mine by the end of the shift

You guys have been amazing!! I'm so nervous and excited for my first day :) I will be sure to bring all of the above mentioned...except shears since I doubt I'll be needing them. Thank you so much!

I always liked bringing a dozen bagels when I started a new job. Did it when I started a FD job, and it went over well. Might not go well for EMS jobs, but I like doing it, esp if you have a station where everyone eats together.

like everyone said, I would bring a stethoscope, uniform, lots of pens and maybe a clipboard (if people are supposed to bring their own).

The people who train you are going to tell you what you will need. Remember, bring what you are told to bring, don't go ricky rescue too soon.
