EMT Jobs

So the whole secret squirrel thing is really shady... I could see him wanting to limit information if he wanted to remain anonymous, however, I'm pretty sure his name is Jeff Lawrence... and he works for Morongo Nation casinos as an EMT... but whatever, if I was in SoCal, and was tired of the back to back to back dialysis runs and wanted a change, I would definitely be applying.

However, I do have a couple of questions about the job (and indian casino EMTs in general): since the casinos are sovereign nations, how does that affect your scope of practice? do they provide their own medical director? what type of agency training and orientation do they provide? do they provide you with malpractice insurance? if you get sued, does the casino back you, or are you unable to get sued because it's a sovereign nation? what type of equipment do they provide you with? do you get any sick patients, or just intox and slip and falls? what is the annual call volume, and do you work solo or with a partner? how many calls per shift?
Not sure why you think its shady. Im not on this thread 24/7 which is why I don't respond right away.. The casino is hiring. The pay is good, the benefits are good. The O/T is plentiful. We run all types of calls, slip & falls to full arrests and everything in between. We have all the equipment from band aids to an auto pulse. 2 man crews per shift, sometime 3 and 4 during peak times. Calls per shift vary. Sometimes we don't have any calls. There have been times we've had 9 or 10. We cover for special events (concerts, special dinners etc). The casino takes very good care of their people. They even feed us during our shift.

None of that is shady. What is a little shady is when a new poster comes on the board and gives out vague information about where the job is, who the job is with, and what kind of job it is and instead just says “message me for more information”. It makes it seem sketchy and under the table kind of stuff. It would seem a heck of a lot less sketchy if you would have came in and said “hey guys, the Casino Morongo is hiring for the EMT position. They pay is XX. If you are interested or have any questions about the position, please let me know”.

Also for anyone interested they do not need a valid reason to fire you. If one of the tribal members or elders doesn’t like you for some reason (maybe you didn’t smile at them or maybe you smiled too big at them) you will be fired.

This applies to any position on a reservation. I can tell you from first hand experience that Morongo Fire kisses the *** of every tribal member they run on, especially the elders. Not that every patient shouldn't be treated well, but i mean being completely over the top to please them. I have run on some very nice people out there and some that acted like we owed them first class luxury service.

I'm not here to argue. Haven't seen anything like what you are stating. The tribe treats us well. Obviously not something you're interested in and thats fine. Stay safe.

I don't, and no one else here, expects you to be on the thread 24/7 or respond immediately. that wasn't the shady part. however, your failure to reveal all the information in the initial post was suuuuuuuuper shady. You could have done what @DesertMedic66 said, like this
If you would have came in and said “hey guys, the Casino Morongo is hiring for the EMT position. They pay is XX. If you are interested or have any questions about the position, please let me know”.
See, that statement has much less shadiness. I would have even suggested including the link to the application. We all know the agency, know how to apply, and what the payrate is. The fact that you withheld that information, only released tidbits when specifically asked, and required people to go through you to apply (since you didn't provide enough information for how someone would apply), is shady.

As I said prevoiusly, with all the information you have now provided, it sounds like a great opportunity to end the renal roundup and standup 24s that seem to be commonplace among private BLS services in socal (based on what I have read on here, I have no first-hand knowledge).

None of us would have chimed in if the proper information had been posted in the first place. That being said, I am only offering information I have heard from people I trust and from running calls on that rez and casino for 10 years. If I was an EMT, I'd still definitely apply for the position, especially if I already had box time. The pay is good compared to local ambulance companies, in fact, it's more than I made at AMR as a 10-year medic. Are there issues working on the rez? Absolutely. But this is not a fire or really a career position, so it's not that big a deal.

I think that is enough about what info the original post was missing. Already closed one thrrad today, don't want to have to do it again.
