Some hospitals in LA/Orange county have EMS lounges with free food/drinks, etc. I'm bored, so I thought i'd make a discussion on them. La Palma inter-community has a really nice one..

Just moved back from Colorado. The lounges out here are pathetic compared to out there, but then here there are so many EMTs and Paramedics that the hospitals don't care about the lounges. Most of the lounges here are nurses lounges anyways but we are allowed in them. Where I was in Colorado a couple of the lounges were really nice with fresh sandwiches daily and they had cokes, sprites and juices that weren't made by off brand companies.

I always wondered what the EMT environment is like in other states..

Silly question. Are we allowed to openly discuss hospitals on this site?

don't know but I would be careful about what you say regardless. Its also a good idea to keep things as vague as possible regarding where you work to avoid any issues with your current or future employers.

In Central VA, the best EMS lounges are at Spotsylvania Regional, Mary Washington, and Henrico Doctors Forest. Plenty of Richmond hospitals give vouchers or free food in their cafeteria, but I love those EMS lounges for a quick snack in the middle of the night.

These little benefits do not sway my decision making with regard to hospital choice, but I know some people who do lead the undecided patient towards a hospital with benefits for EMS providers.

I just have a little party in my head when I realize I am going to get a hot pocket, poptart and delicious cup of Keurig coffee. I don't buy poor nutrition, ever, if I can help it, so I it's not that bad to take it when it comes to me. :)

We have it good here in Denver. Am I hungry? Next patient goes to P/SL Hospital. Do I want a Rock Star and to read a little bit from Annals of Emergency Medicine, off to Rose Hospital. Ice Cream or cookies? I guess I'm going to Porter. It's like shopping. All of them have at least some place to sit and a TV.

Then EMS week rolls around and some ERs go all out on trying to give us stuff. We usually make the rounds and try to tell others who has good stuff.

Granted if you work out in some of the other cities were there is only one or two hospitals, there probably won't be a lounge. Boulder Community, Longmont United, Denver Health, etc don't have lounges.

To those in Denver: If you haven't been to the new St Anthony's Hospital you should go, they have an awesome lounge. And whoever figures out how their ambulance bay works you should post it on the forums. I can't figure out which way you are supposed to pull through or which direction those little middle parking spots are for.

Mmm... Sky Ridge pudding parfait-things.

The hospitals locally don't really have EMS lounges, they usually just allow us to raid the pt. fridge for a juice or some crackers :P However, I hear that OHSU (or maybe it was Emanuel?) up in Portland have enchiladas, but I have been unable to investigate it thus far

We have one hospital in ABQ with a lounge. One of the things I loved about working for ACA (actually the only thing) was the lounges in the Denver Metro :p

And new SA? The one in Lakewood?

We have 3 hospitals in our response area. Only 1 of them has an EMS "lounge". It's just a small room with a fridge, a couple chairs, and our computer bases. But we get to go in the nurses lounge. As for the other 2 hospitals there is nothing for us.

Yeah, they just moved out there about a month ago. They are still doing construction but the ER and some floors are open. Really neat building, just out of the way.

Never thought about hospitals having nice lounges to lure medics into bringing patients there. Apparently its not much of an issue round here though cuz the lounges consist mostly of two chairs a table and maybe some day old donuts.

When I lived in the Denver Metro, I lived actually right near there. I saw them building it :)

About the same here. <_< If that.

I have been known however to sneak into the nurses lounge and steal chocolate cake and such. There is one nurse who has one serious love affair with chocolate and she is always tipping me off as to when and where the chocolate stuff is in the nurses lounge.

And we have one tech that will quite literally eat you alive is she catches you in the nurse lounge. So you either have to wait till she is in a pts room, or give it right back and tell her that she doesn't belong in there either since the door says Nursing Lounge. Lol!

We have no nurses lounge, we also have no EMS lounge :( however we do have a good cafeteria. Drink machine in the ER lobby that we visit frequently.

We have a lounge ... at the ambulance station, which is where we go in between jobs and watch telly, cook, sleep or surf the internet :D

Bite Me

And just to be sure I am just playing around and very jealous. Our station we cannot go to till after nine the satillite tv is being paid for, the tv or the dvd player doesn't work right, and there is no real access to the internet available if we bring our own laptops.

If you all are ever in the metro detroit area might I suggest these:

Crittenton: the best one. Sandwhiches, fountain pop, fruit, chips, pastry things, and cookies on a good day.

POH: sandwhiches and juices.

St john: water, juice, fruit crackers.

St joe: fountain pop, bagels, pastries, and juice.

The rest kinda suck. Beaumont our biggest hospital and level 1. They own everything around here. Their lounge is a desk, microwave, and chairs. Not cool beaumont. Not cool.

Our trauma center has an office with a computer for charting, a couple lounge chairs a bathroom and a microwave. Then there's a closet outside by the landing pad with supplies and snack food and drinks.

We don't have any EMS lounges here, though we do have designated areas for charting. Of the main hospitals in county, the biggest has no amenities, next largest has sodas available, next sometimes has drinks available, last big one has a full assortment of munchies, sodas, and an on-demand coffee/tea maker.
