I know of partial or loss of hearing is common in EMT work, but how do you protect your ears when on a run?

My ground agency has several pairs of shooting style ear muffs. Flight agency had helmets with hearing protection built in.

Ear plugson the truck. I had CEP's for the flight gig but they started cutting out within a few months, now ear plugs there too

I just turn the radio up so the sirens do not bother me as much.

close the windows of the truck while driving with the sirens going

If 35 years of drumming with garage bands didn't take (all) my hearing, sirens sure won't...

Filtered ear plugs like the Surefire Sonic Defenders are great as you can leave them unplugged for moderate hearing protection while still being able to have a conversation and then pluged for louder or sustained noise. Cheap and convenient

For flight, I would never fly without CEPs. You can pop out the filter core on the Surefires and use them with CEPs which is an awesome upgrade from foam.
