A Rookies tragic mistake. Paramedics this one is for you

From what I have been told by my doctors, it doesn't even have to be prolonged use of birth control to increase a woman's risk for stroke. And, maybe it's because I am a woman and have looked at birth control both from the perspective of an prehospital provider as well as from the perspective...

Why haven't I seen more MCI training events?

Am I the only one who is getting a little annoyed due to the dearth of MCI training events/classes/seminars? Maybe I'm just not seeing postings for classes, seminars, reviews and they are actually happening. Or maybe it's just my geographical area/service. Given the world we live in, it seems...

    Paramedic School

I believe you. I learned dimensional analysis in chemistry way back in the day, like 9th grade, and every time I use it I remember my teacher & I say a little prayer of thanks. Dimensional analysis is like a ninja trick. It ALWAYS comes out correctly.

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

Passed NREMT-P first go around. Less than 80 questions, I was done in less than an hour. I was actually kinda annoyed at how easy it seemed (aside from the stupid questions about like what gear or equipment I'd use for extrications, which at my school was "All the departments meet or exceed...

    sport for fitness

I've done a bunch of different sports competitively and I was the most fit (in terms of lowest body fat percentage, highest muscle mass, highest lactate threshold, etc.) when I was rowing. But I've also swum, played water polo, raced my bike, and trained Brazilian jiu jitsu competitively. My...

    NREMT Proctor

I've been looking but can't figure out: does a medic student take the psychomotor portion first or the cognitive portion first or does it not matter?

Do you 5K? 10K? Marathon? Triathlon?

Grew up swimming and riding bikes. Got started riding bikes with my dad, still do ride bikes with hime when I get the chance. Used to race bikes, mostly on the road, and focused on stage racing, but also some cx. I actually started racing cx, then did road racing to stay in shape, and was...

EMT fired after refusing to respond to call with patient who previously attacked her.

The company she used to work for dodged a bullet. She told her dispatcher that she was uncomfortable taking the call and didn't feel safe and asked for another crew to be assigned to it (and it seems as if there were crews that were willing to take the call from what the article implies). If...

    NCTI vs junior colleges

JCs are great but due to space limitations it can be hard to get a spot. NCTI? I've heard mixed reviews. If you get your medic, good. I have heard that there have been problems in getting clinical and ride along hours scheduled, but I think that that is a known problem and being currently...

    Vegetarians?

I've been a vegetarian for over half my life and it's never really a problem for me but I live in California so there's plenty of places to get food w/o meat. That being said, I'm too broke to buy take out so I normally take my food to work (PB&J, beans & rice, etc.) and eat it cold because...

Getting a paramedic job with 5 over speeding ticket?

Fight it. From what I've been given to understand, loads of time, most of the time, the police officer doesn't even show up. Look into if there is a way to take a class and keep it off your record. Finally, I know a couple of services who won't let people under 21 drive, regardless of their...

    Do you even EKG bro?

Healthy young dude, exercising in the heat. No cardiac history, no family cardiac history. Per the RN I talked to the next night he was given fluids and told to see a cardiologist.

How did you study in Medic School?

Course material to Anki notecards. It's a game changer. I wrote about it in another thread: Completely agree w/Gurby: Anki, Anki, Anki. I didn't use it/didn't know about it/didn't need it for the Basic. Started using it about 1/3 of the way through paramedic & it's been a game changer. I...

NREMT testers. READ THIS BEFORE POSTING.

Completely agree w/Gurby: Anki, Anki, Anki. I didn't use it/didn't know about it/didn't need it for the Basic. Started using it about 1/3 of the way through paramedic & it's been a game changer. I generally don't have a problem understanding the material in my paramedic class as it all does...

    anatomy study guide

Having a good grasp of word roots makes it possible to unsweunswerstand rather than just memorize terms. E.g. -it is, a/an-, brady-, tachy-, ect-, endo-, entero-, rhin/rhino-, epi-, dia-, etc. There's loads of lists on the internet and you know loads of them already. It helps me to try to...

    Invention ideas: Self Cleaning Ambulance

Also like the Simpsons' Ultrahouse 3000. Edit to add: provided we can keep the ulraambulance 3000 from starting on a murderous rampage, I'd fully support it.
