Get Out of LA and California for that matter!

I think we got a pretty damn good system in Multnomah County. Progressive protocols, good medical benefits, and our pay is solid especially after our recent union contract. We got our issues just like every private EMS agency.

    Working at a sobering center

I worked at one for a few years and I can tell you that you are doing a lot more EMT things than you realize. I personally think the experience is much more valuable than doing wheelchair transfers, nothing against working the wheelchair rigs. Where are you working at? Feel free to PM me with...

    AMR Oregon?

I don’t think there’s any pay incentive for speaking a second language. AMR wheelchair EMT’s start at $29k and 911 EMT’s start at $34k. Once you get your medic then you move over to Multnomah County. Let me know if you have any other questions.

You thinking about coming to Oregon?

    AMR Oregon?

Special Services Division. Sounds way cooler than it is. It's wheelchair and inter facility transports.

    AMR Oregon?

Ha! I don't think so. In fact I think they're hiring EMT's. The SSD division is understaffed. I don't know what management is like in SSD but for the 911 side for both counties I'd say they are pretty good and won't just fire people for BS reasons. Obviously it's not all rainbows and unicorns...

    AMR Oregon?

Clackamas County runs a medic and an EMT. Multnomah County is duel medic. Not sure about Josephine County. We also have SSD which is staffed with EMT's. I don't know what the pay is for EMT's but I could find out.

    AMR Oregon?

I think overall we have a great relationship with fire. One fire agency doesn't seem to want to do much medicine so it's all us. Another is very team oriented. Obviously there's always exceptions. For the most part fire defers to us for medical. AMR in Multnomah doesn't seem to have as a big...

    AMR Oregon?

Not sure but that $51k was for a new medic. I think people coming in with experience start at a higher rate. Most shifts are 12 hours and 4 on 4 off.

    AMR Oregon?

I'm an AMR medic in Oregon. We have an operation in Josephine County (Southern Oregon), Clackamas County, and Multnomah County. Clackamas and Multnomah counties are right by each other and medics often work both counties. I work in Multnomah County which includes Portland. New medics start at...

Where is the best EMS system?

I work in a busy urban system in Portland, OT. I think a new medic starts at 51k. Benefits are good too. Our protocols are fairly liberal and progressive. Feel free to PM for additional info.

Drug Screen/test Before or during Emt College course?

My school has a required drug test but you do it whenever. If you don't then you don't go on clinicals. If you fail you can retest. When it comes time to get your EMT license just be honest with the state and future employers about your past use and you SHOULD be ok, no guarantees. I've smoked...

    This makes me mad

Ah Portland. My home town. I'm not a fan of the Red & Black not because of the co-owners views but more due to his ignorance potentially causing harm to others. I know a good chunk of the Portland cops and if they were going to do anything with this guy it would be to take him to the drunk tank...

    High-fidelity simulation in EMT/Medic schools

KELRAG, shot me a PM and I can get you in touch with our program director who oversees our sims. We also have a pretty cool mobile training unit ambulance that is set up so instructors can stand outside and watch a life feed of a student running a call.

I was thinking that as I typed it.

    High-fidelity simulation in EMT/Medic schools

I'm in medic school right now and the program is heavy on sims. I like them a lot. Our sim manikins are pretty dang cool. In addition to BP, pulse, and lung sounds they also have abdominal sounds, scream (which is weird) can swap out genitals, add a amputated leg, start IV's, 12 leads, push...

I have some awesome brews to send someone.

    Beer trades?

Someone PM me your address and I'll send you beer. If you want you can even give me an idea of what you like or just trust me as I used to be a brewer.

    Teaching SQ Injections

I find it odd that a paramedic can teach a medic student how to start an IV but can't teach an EMT student how to give a med via SQ.

    Beer trades?

I'm in! I'm very lucky to live where I do as we have the largest number of breweries per capita. Well at least we were that may have changed.
