    Mccabe ambulance???

UCC is a good program. By the way, a fair amount of previously all-volunteer first aid squads are hiring per-diem EMTs to fill gaps in their coverage.

    Mccabe ambulance???

I don't personally know anyone who's worked for them, but it should be interesting to see how everything pans out with the Jersey City contract. If your goal is to become a paramedic, it might be better for you to start BLS with a service that also has ALS (MONOC, JCEMS, Capital Health, UMDNJ)...

    Best "Skilled" Nursing Home stories

Another crew showed up at an SNF to find nurses bagging a pt by squeezing the part of the BVM that fills with O2.

One of NJ's main ALS services has an ER doc on duty who can respond to scenes in a flycar: http://www.emsworld.com/press_release/10615990/nj-based-monoc-adds-ems-physician-md-1-program

AHSI the new player in Healthcare training

ASHI is fairly common in NJ and is used by both services I've been with for in-house certification.

What's the dumbest thing you've said to a patient?

I once asked a non-English-speaking patient's adult son if he could speak his mother's language. I only half realized what I was saying - I knew he could speak the language, but he was being uncooperative in translating.

How much does it cost to recert or re license where you work?

NJ doesn't charge anything for the recert. If you're a member of a volunteer squad, the refresher is covered by the state training fund. I also get my CPR renewed for free by my squad.

    Decisions

I think the fact you're asking this question shows a good chance of it working out fine. As long as you remember that you don't know everything about how EMS works on the streets - even when you become a paramedic - you'll be able to learn as you go. Just remember to keep asking questions and be...

Paid EMS squads in NJ ????

A fair amount of volunteer first aid squads are hiring per-diem EMTs to fill in coverage gaps. Call around to some local squads and you might find some that are hiring.

Private registration for the EMT exam?

MMiz is right. It's an exam that's only open to people who took a certain course. Sometimes these are set up for large classes or classes for specific EMS companies.

Paid EMS squads in NJ ????

McCabe in Bayonne is hiring since they just took over the EMS contract for Jersey City.

    Foreigner taking a CPR/EMT-B course?

For NJ, you need to have healthcare provider CPR certification before starting the course. If you join a volunteer squad, they will cover the cost of your training through the state EMS training fund. However, most squads will want a 1-2 year commitment from you.

    Typos on NREMT

Has anyone else noticed typos on the exam? I found quite a few, some of which made it difficult to figure out what was being asked.

What's happening to First Responder in MA?

I believe most EMR / First Responder courses now are mainly offered for specific groups that need the training (e.g. firefighters, police officers, and some college EMS squads). Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do at your age with EMS. When you're 18, you can take the EMT course...

    communication - who's to blame?

Sounds like both you and your partner could have benefited from more communication. You could have asked your partner if s/he was ready for you to start moving the chair. But your partner should probably also have realized not to rest his/her foot on it since you were going to be moving it...
