Life - Enjoy it and never take a moment of it for granted

I shouldn't be typing this. I shouldn't have had the opportunity to wake up this morning. I shouldn't be alive. Kinda drama'ish, I know, but yesterday afternoon I was involved in high speed MVA while towing a 7000 pound trailer. For those of you familiar with Houston, the 610 Houston...

Be honest. Do you wear your seat belt in the back of the ambulance?

Yes, each time every time. Ambulance, fire truck, personal vehicle, and helicopter.

Nitronox. Why isn't it used anymore?

So I take it CCEMS no longer carries it? I loved the stuff! Simple and effective with minimal side effects.

What Happened to the Red Cross?!

I too am baffled with this "EMT talk" with reference to the ARC. ARC has never been one to support an alternate form of education and has always focused on their in-house courses to deliver first aid care under their volunteer programs. Regardless of that, I for one have washed my hands of...

    Flight Medic Boots??

I wear Dr. Martens industrial wellingtons. They are comfortable, meet all required ANSI and ASTM standards, have great ankle padding and support, and are easy on and off. In my opinion they are one of the best pairs I have worn on the helo.

    C Sections and following pregnancies

Interesting. Can you post some updated research to substantiate this? Being on the largest dedicated HROB transport team in Houston, I have never heard this statistic. We (meaning staff MD's / L&D / Post & Ante Partum personnel) routinely use and document VBAC. We transport a few of these...

    Texas State EMT Certification?

I know the wait sucks, but the reality of it is that you sent your NREMT less than two weeks ago. TDSHS will not start processing until they receive ALL required credentials and documentation. You may be looking at another day or possible up to four more weeks. Patience, my friend, the day will...

    Texas State EMT Certification?

Are you certain it is the processing time and not the fact that you will only be home for 3 months? It is difficult to get a return on investment for such a short time of employment. As a manager, I too would be hesitatant for that exact reason. Nothing personal, but if you cannot show the...

    Americare is Bad

Idealism is a great fantasy, however the reality to private EMS companies in high supply areas is really simple. They are in business to make the most money possible while spending the least amount possible. That means unless you can show a quality improvement that can increase the quantity of...

    Americare is Bad

Welcome to personal opinion and perception in the world of EMS.............. 1. They do not accurately pay their employees. Then file a complaint with the DOL. 2. HR have intentionally screwed up paperwork. Such as? 3. For new hires, they do not provide a 3 man after the fact that...

    Harris County Emergency Corp

As surprising as it is, they are very retroreflectorized and well lit up. While black isn't my cup of tea, they did a great job at making the units visible and as safe as possible for the hood they work in. Great medics there I might add!

    West University Place Fire Department

There is a reason you don't see too many. They are underpowered maintenance hogs! My old FD has one that is an absolute POS. MCHD also purchase quite a few and found out the hard way how much they truly costs. Glad I'm not one of their tax payers! Oh, wait, I am. ****...............

Flight/CCT jobs that do not require >3 years?

Not one that places priority on obtaining or maintaining accreditation through CAMTS. CAMTS standards require evidence of 3 plus years applicable experience for Paramedics. Do the time, get the experience. Don't let a piece of paper that states you passed a test define you. In today's...

Blood product initiation in the field by EMS

Sadly, I understand their dilemma. I am surprised they do not have a contingency in place for State facilities. Do they really send all populations and levels of care by ground with a standard crew?

    EMT heaven

$90 for a liter of NS and MVI. $150 for two. $500 for a house call to your hotel room. Add a small fee for Zofran, Toradol, Zantac, and Thiamine and this man has a nice cash crop. I like the idea and honestly you have to admit he has a great business plan with a completely untapped market...

Did anyone else notice the "nurses assistant" in the first picture? Is she seriously wearing the infamous white naughty nurse outfit? What the good doctors number??????? Feeling a bit run down, lol.

Blood product initiation in the field by EMS

Yes, additional access would have been necessary. RIC line, EJ, Subclavian, something. 2 units of blood for an emergent rupture is definitely equivalent to pissing in the wind. Was there consideration given to a more rapid method of transport with an appropriate specialty team? I.e. fancy...

I used to drive by that station every day on my way to work. There are some really good folks working there.

I'd put ECI 2 notches above TEEX, but well below the program at Lonestar, San Jac, or HCC.
