Say hello to El Paso Fire Department station 19 home of Rescue 19. Rescue 19 is the first of our EMTLIFE comes to you station visits. Located near the corner of Montwood blvd and McRae blvd. this station holds special meaning for me. As a Littlebald guy I walked by it many times on my way to and from school and spent a good part of my youth listening to the sound of it's sirens as it went out on calls.

More recently the station gained another level of meaning for me. It was a station 19 crew that responded when my father took a bad fall. Both the medic and fire crew were very good to my father and mother.

The station is located across the street from Eastwood High School. Engine 19 went in service on November 19, 1959 and was housed at Station 18 until their station was completed. An ambulance has been stationed at Station 19 since the early 1980s when the ambulance service was still under the Emergency Medical Services Division (EMS).

thats one badass ambulance!

It was probably the best scrubbed ambo I've ever seen. You gotta hand it to these fire guys they keep their rigs clean. If you look in the background of one of the photos you can see my mom waiting in the car playing words with friends :)

Rescue 19 is one tight crew- I rode with them for a week and a half courtesy of the Army (great cross-training). Their A, B, and C shifts are all on point.

I'm in Station 27's cachement myself, but they're great too.

EPFD has moderately aggressive protocols, transports, good pay, and they like their jobs. The rigs range from fairly OK to brand-screaming-new, except for a few reserves. My only gripe with them is that I missed their hiring test, and that was thanks to Uncle Sam.

I'd work EPFD in a heartbeat.

BigBald, I didn't know you were in my neck of the tumbleweeds- what's up?

I've already moved on but I'll be back. If you're still in touch with any of the crew at station 19 please let them know they're our first station visit. The guys that weren't on duty might not know yet.

I used to drive by that station every day on my way to work. There are some really good folks working there.
