BLS Skills -- What Should We Add?

I see where you're coming from, perhaps not all, but it could be something that could be taken into consideration. A lot of the EMTs I work with are very sharp and perhaps would make great medics, but I feel that there would be quite a few who could benefit from it being a skill, at least setup...

    Protransport 1, Paramedic

If you work in Santa Clara county, you will be backup for 911, but from what I know as an EMT, the likelihood of getting a 911 call is very, very low. Mostly ALS transports and rigs are mostly dual medic. Dont know what pay is like, but EMT's start around $11/hr. No call bonuses for medics...

BLS Skills -- What Should We Add?

Definetely EKG lead placement and even interpretation. It really isnt that much of a skill to ask for especially with easy books like Dubin's Rapid Interpretation of EKGs. It would really come in handy while monitoring a patient. Also perhaps use of monitors for ETCO2 and pulseox. If we can do...

How to start working as an EMT-B

Other than IFT and 911, there's really not that much. You can volunteer with Rockmed, but their orientation up in Marysville occurs only once per year, and the last one was in April. 911 in Sacramento area is mostly fire if I remember correctly, so that's near impossible. There are only a few...

    Weird EKG.... Have at it!

I'm thinking rapid A-fib, cause of irregularity, with weird parts of sinus rhythm in between.

    atp in the cell

Its hard to say exactly where ATP is located, because it usually moves around to wherever it is needed. For example, if you were lifting a heavy weight; as soon as the ATP is made, it is destined for the muscle fibers that are generating the force. ATP doesn't sit around. One thing about...

    Rural Metro Milipitas, CA

There was a huge thread here when they first opened up back in February earlier this year: http://www.emtlife.com/showthread.php?t=28424 Massive openings and even more applications back in Feb. I applied but never got a call back. Im hoping I can reapply with better luck next time they open up...

    atp in the cell

ATP isn't stored, but there are other things that are stored in the body that contain potential energy which can be used to quickly or slowly make ATP. If you need a large amount of ATP on a very short notice (IE a sudden sprint), your body has stores of a molecule stored all over your body and...

    Rural/ Metro? Action Care?

As far as I know, that would depend on region. Here in Santa Clara County in California, R/M runs the 911 calls and is Medic/EMT. Not sure about the separate divisions that run IFT's and what not, but they do have medics working CCT calls from what I've heard.

    Terrible Driving Record

Unfortunately, most places dont hire attendants only. BLS rigs at my company switch attendant and driver every call.

    Rockmed

Unfortunately, it's a little late at this point, but you need to attend their annual orientation in Mountain View or Marysville to get started. If I remember right, it was held some time in April. If you know someone else that's in rockmed already, they might be able to get in contact with their...

    Mobile Healthcare Technician?

Not 100% sure of what that job with AMR may do, but from what I've seen EMT-B's that do "mobile care" typically help with on-the-job physical exams for new hires. At my job, we had people who were also EMT-B's from an outside company, come in and do basic stuff like BP, lung auscultation...

    Patients Plus - Alameda County

Hi everyone, does anyone know anything about Patients Plus out of alameda county? I'm assuming that they do IFTs under the same company as Paramedics Plus, but does anyone have any other info? I was hoping to apply for Paramedics Plus someday and I was wondering if it was worth applying to...
