Like I tell people,if you wanna become an EMT you should try being a medical first responder first cuz then you can get your skills for when you do go and get your emt license,so yeah,Id say go for your Basic EMT before getting into the medic program,id take at least a year before doing that.

I miss doing first aid stations at special events but we got away from that cuz of liability reasons. When we were at events 2 of us would go out and walk around carrying a jump bag just in case we came up on something.

The get well soon card isnt a bad idea,it just shows that you care about the patient. Ive never heard of having a survey for the patient to fill out,I mean I know its a good way to tell if you did a good job treating them or not,it just matters on what the department thinks about it.

Dont feel bad,I felt the same way when I first got involved in EMS work,its not unusual to get that feeling. As a matter of fact,you get the occasional adrenaline rush the first time you hear a call for the department you are on,it can be a good thing sometimes.
