What kind of different schedules do you guys have and who do you work for. I am trying to get an idea of what will be going on after I finish school. I posted a thread where my husband is a firefighter and I would like an idea of how different employers work. Thank you for your response.

(from the firefighter husband) What she is asking is what are the shifts. i.e. I work 24on, 48 off. Some FD's work 3-12am's, 3-12pm's, 3off and anothewr local works 10 days on and off followed by 5 off. And what's a wacker?? LOL

7am-7pm on a 2 week cycle.

First Week: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Second Week: Wednesday, Thursday

Repeat.

Edit: Private service.

EMS - 4 on, 4 off. 2-10hr days,2-14hr nights, Days 0730-1730 , Nights 1730-0730.

Fire here works 2 days, 2 nights , 2 off, 2 days, 2 nights , 6 off. ( They eat and sleep most of it )

3 days, 3 nights, 5 off, and repeat.

days are 10 hours, and nights are 14 hours.

I do shift bids every two weeks. ITs great for when I go back to school and can work around my school schedule, not school around my work schedule!

W-Sa 1945-0715.
Breaks down, 8 11.5 hour shifts every two weeks, or 7 12 hour shifts every 2 weeks, or 10 9 hour shifts every two weeks. My company also runs 24 hour shifts, but, I don't know how they work.

One of the two large nation wide Private Services.

Full-time where I am is 12 hrs/day, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and every other Wednesday OR every other Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

The shifts are:
5a to 5p
6a to 6p
7a to 7p
2p to 2a

5p to 5a
6p to 6a
7p to 7a

And I think there's an 8a to 8p, and an 8p to 8a.

I'm only an intern, so I get Saturdays 6a to 6p. Pretty cushy :P

24 hours on (0700-0700) off 24 for three tours, then four days off. Total of ten days a month.

Same here, I think that's my favorite breakdown. I like the 24's but a 24 on/48 off constant just doesn't feel as nice since you don't get that nice long break once a weekish.

We work mostly 12's for 3 days one week and 4 the next.
We have some ambulances (like the one I work on) that is 24 on 24 off for 3 shifts and 4 days off... The modified Kelley Schedule...
We also have 10 hour ambulances that work only 4 days a week
Lastly we have a BLS truck that works 8 hrs mon-fri.
I guess you could say we have it all....

Tried it for five years, couldn't stand it. So I entered EMS.

24 on 48 off, Most of your smaller towns do 24/48, the busier locales do different.
