Okay, guys, I'm having a cranial-rectal inversion here....

Which street drug will cause the pupils to dilate when exposed to light?

Hallucinogenic.

LSD??? Mushrooms???

Cocaine????

Don't know of any med.'s that will cause the light to dilate but Atropine causes dilation and is routinely used by ophthalmologist or optometrist.

The call was a 37yoM found unresponsive in a bar parking lot. Bartender advises that pt. had been in about 2 hours ago and had three beers. Pt. then departs for 30 minutes with three other guys and returns in this condition.

VS: HR=93, RR=16-20, BP=98/70, 117/80, 105/80, 132/70 (after 200cc bolus NS). No injury noted anywhere on physical exam.

Pupils went from 4mm to 6mm in both eyes when I shined my penlight into them.

Wait, a sec here....aren't pupils supposed to dilate when exposed to light? And the more light, the bigger they get?

Nope, the other way around. They're supposed to constrict when exposed to light.

  Ok....And now that I slept a few hours, thats like DUH!!

Maybe some kind of depressant? Doc put me on Klonipin once and it dropped my BP, and did that to my pupils.

Heroin causes "pinpoint pupils" correct?

Correct. Heroin causes pupils to constrict.

Possible Benzo abuse?
