I have a question for those communication folks out there. Our service finally got a cardiac monitor capable of transmitting 12 leads. What does everyone use to accomplish this? We won't be using it much so I don't want a cellphone plan, I was thinking a trac phone with a data plan, does anyone know if that's possible?

Without knowing the specifics of your organization, your transport times and the capabilities of your receiving hospitals (and how involved they are with your service)...the question is...Do you need to actually worry about this and do this? Why would you want to do this and would it and if so, how would it benefit your care delivery?

I am not saying yes or no for you, however my experience with multiple organizations was we never did this. There really was no need. We would issue a cardiac alert and transport to the appropriate facility when the patient warranted such. Other than that, all other rhythms were treated accordingly by the paramedic staff.

Unless absolutely required for your area's code STEMI plan, it might not be worth the effort and money. Only time we were transmitting 12-leads was during the ATLANTIC trial a few years back where the study protocol required the interventionist review the ECG for enrolment. Caused a lot of headaches keeping the various components talking to each other.

We have WiFi in our units. When we have an odd rhythm or for any STEMI we transmit the 12-lead ASAP to the hospital so the doc can double check it to make sure the STEMI team is needed.

Which monitor are you using? That'll determine the transmit method.

Well to give more info we are in a rural area with nearest cath lab 30mins or more away. Local hospital 10mis away depending on location. We are a basic service using a Philips mrx monitor. Paramedic intercept is 20min away.
