I have a State of Florida EMT and Paramedic license. What are states that only require a national license or can be challenged by the State of Florida license to work in? Just in case anybody happens to knows. Preferably in the West Coast.

The majority of states require National Registry. It's easier to just find the reciprocity requirements for the individual states you're looking to relocate to.

I'll give you the ones I specifically looked at. Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina (where I am now), Georgia, Arkansas (where I came from).

Any particular area you're looking at? Any particular type of service? That could help us recommending you some services to look for.

There is no "National License" as far as I know. If you have National Registry, some states will accept that as part of their process to get your state license to practice.

That's what I meant to say. Well I would love to work for fire/ems, but for now working ems or for an ambulance as a EMT or Paramedic would be fine to start. I have a young family. Two small children. I live in South Florida currently. Ideally I would like to go to the West Coast because it brings me closer to my wife's family. I'm interested in Washington State, Northern California, I guess Oregon, Nevada, Texas but not in the south near the border..I'd prefer West. Somewhere affordable and family friendly.

For California all you need is the NREMT or NRP to be able to get the state/county cert

That's great. I'm renewing my NREMT and after that plan to get my NRP. So with a NREMT I should be able to get hired and get the California license? Do I challenge their test, do you know how it works there? Do you know the Sacramento area?

Unfortunately I do not know the process for Sac or know the area. Generally speaking it seems as if most of CA uses the NREMT as their test (Many counties have an additional test for Medics). Your best bet would be to call them directly and ask about the process:

I suggest that you contact the State licensing/certification agency that you are interested in and obtain the details that you will need. As noted each State (even county/city/district/employer) may require additional requirements

Thanks a lot for the information.

I spoke to someone from Sacramento. Looks good. I only need my national registry and a background check. Sounds great to me. But I really wanted Washington State, maybe at a later point.
