Hello,
I'm looking for some ideas as to other 'gigs' available as an EMT in the RI/MA-- maybe CT but I'd have to get yet another license...---area. I work full time as an EMT on an IFT service, however Im looking to pick up some additional work during the summer months. I've heard of people doing different types of work-- like events and stuff-- as an EMT but I haven't the first clue where to start. I mean I do have alternatives in terms of unrelated work, but I figured I'd give it a go at trying to find some work using this fancy-dancy license of mine first.. haha..

Any ideas?

For those outside of RI/MA/CT area, it's New England, a fairly temperate climate with beaches and mountains and all that good stuff you learned in primary school.

I'm a licensed basic in both states, with experience in Fire/Rescue.. I figure summer is upon us, so maybe some seasonal opportunities open up.

Thank you.

Amusement parks. Water parks. Pools. Events. Summer camp.

I worked at a water park for a couple of seasons. Very slow, a few good ALS calls. Mostly band aids and sunburns... Lots of MILFs to watch when it was slow. Don't judge me.

Ahhhhh okay Ill definitely take a looksee. Yeah I mean its slow, but hey, its a side job lol.

MILFs are good.... GILFs just don't look as good in a bikini... (Yes, kidding....)

I'm already half way through my EMT-Cardiac---- it's essentially a level 1 paramedic, except RI only-- so no real time. But that being said, what exactly is a wilderness EMT, as opposed to a regular one-- I mean we do SAR and stuff as part of a rescue company.

For the most part, a WEMT is the medical person in charge in austere environments far from definitive care. Your job could be anything. Medicine, SAR, logistics, trip planing, evacuation, etc. Your job function will vary based off of trip length, number of people, and severity of the emergency. Many ski patrols and wildland fire crews look for these certifications.

Since you already have your EMT, you can just take a one week Wilderness First Responder course and you'll be recognized as a Wilderness EMT.

School in North Conway, NH that I highly recommend that offers WFR/WEMT courses.

EMT-Cardiacs are not anything resembling paramedics. It is a horrible certification level that gives providers far, far too much scope with very little education, and something that RI needs to do away with. But I digress.

As for Wilderness-EMT: http://www.nols.edu/wmi/courses/wemt.shtml

EMT-Cardiac? Is it like EMT-Intermediate?

Fairly similar, yes. Relatively close to the I-99 scope for intermediates.
