Hello, I live in California and my National Registry EMT certification lapsed less then 6 months ago. I know that I need 24 CEUs in order to obtain my EMT license once again. I am enrolled in a class that will give me my skills testing as well as 4 hours of CEUs. It seems my only option to the the other 20 hours is online. I am looking to get my CEUs at medic-ce.com as they are CECBEMS accredited. My question is will the National Registry accept 20 hours from a CECBEMS accredited online class? Also do those hours need to be in any subjects in particular? Thank you to anyone who can help!

Thank you both for the quick responses. I appreciate the help but I was unable to find whether 20 hours of CECBEMS accredited online classes would be accepted towards gaining back my lapsed certification? Or if those hours need to spent in any specific subject?

Did you look at the link?
The breakdown and accepted hours are listed.

** A maximum number of 10 hours CECBEMS approved Distributive Education can be applied to refresher education.

I apologize, I did read the link but I did not see that information. My mistake. So then the asterisk at the bottom says. "A maximum number of 10 hours CECBEMS approved Distributive Education can be applied to refresher education.". I'm sorry if this is a dumb question.. Does that mean only 10 hours of online is acceptable of the 24 I need?

Yes, only 10 hours of online CEU are accepted.

Well that sucks. I had spoke to a women from the registry earlier today and was told that the 20 hours online and 4 hours testing would be fine. She also told me that I am not recertifying, but just certifying. Because I am less then 6 months lapsed.

I could be completely wrong, I was only interpreting the rule based on what you posted. You need to contact the NREMT for clarification.

Ok will do, thank you all again for the help. I really appreciate it.

like mmiz mentioned, your best course of action would be to call NREMT. you can also try calling your local county EMS agency..

edit: i just recently took a refresher course and people in the class had their certs lapse. I MAY BE WRONG, but if its 1-5 months you only need the 24 hour refresher course (classroom + skills = around $250). if it has been 6-12 months (i think), you need to do the 24 hr refresher course + an additional 24 hours of CEUs. From my understanding, you are allowed to do CEUs online, but you can not do more than 12 CEU hours per day.
