Hey guys, just got my e-mail for my EMT-B class and they required us to buy some black boots and emt pants. I was wondering if any one has shopped at slygear.com? They have a nice pair of boots (http://slygear.com/ems_police_boots.html) and a nice pair of pants pretty cheap...(http://slygear.com/emt_pants_28_99.html) I was wondering if these items are OK and if any one has shopped here before...Thanks in advance!

i have those EMT pants, they are extremely comfortable, and are really nice since they have all those side pockets.. as well as they have the ****ies durability.. (i dont know if the one in your link is made by ****ies, but the ones i have are, and look very similar to those)

i have a pair of boots that are similar to those, but i would HIGHLY recomend spending some extra money and getting boots with zippers as they are easier to put on and take off (i wish i got some) as i like to take off my boots when we are posting( its a real pain getting them off and on without zippers)

Ya know you can buy zippers that lace into standard boots right?

I have a zipper in my red wings, and it's works amazingly... Fine a good pair of boots and just lace in the zipper I know about half my department has done that

I have a pair of Timberland Pro Valor Yorktown (now discontinued). These are the most comfortable 8" boot I have ever worn and I got a great deal on them from a local vendor. The only problem I had was when they were new and not broken in, I tried to pull them on laced up with the zipper open and ended up busting a couple teeth off of the bottom of the zipper. I sewed the 'breakage' up with some black spiderwire fishing line and it works as good as new. So, be careful when pulling on your boots that have plastic zippers!

How sad....

Now in 5X ! waist 55"-59" In either Navy or Black!

We have a couple of guys who only wear 5.11 pants because they are the only pants that fit them. These guys are FF2's... lol

(I wear "Tru Gear" which is a cheap version of duty wear and I get it at the local army navy store.... and I wear bates boots)

Bates has a nice boot. They are very light and durable and most of all COMFORTABLE! Cost about $135.00 depending where you get em.....

I have the 5.11 EMS pants from Galls, they are nice. But the knee pads are off to the side and you will never use them. They are BSI (Body Substance Isolation: very good thing in the EMS field) but are also thick. In the summer time they will hold a lot of heat. Great pair of paints with a ton of pockets that will hold everything.

I hate tactical EMS pants. I wear ****ies with the standard two butt and two side pockets. Never had a problem, and they are $20 a pair, you get them right away and there's no shipping if you just wander on down to Wal-Mart.

However don't get Wal-Mart boots, they are crappy and fall apart. I buy boots at Al's Army Navy. I find military stores are a GREAT place for good boots. After my pair of emergency Wal-Mart boots finally fall apart I will be going back to Al's. (I liked my old boots, and so did my dogs because they gnawed on them and made it necessary for an emergency walmart trip.)

I like www.thefirestore.com

They ship fast and do not charge nearly as much in shipping that galls does, plus unlike galls they do not charge sales tax to all 50 states.

5.11 ATAC Storm Boot, Awesome, durable, comfortable!!

5.11 EMS Pant, Washed mine a gazillion times still no trace of fading, throw knee pads in the trash thou

+1 on the bates. Sears (if you have sears in florida, if not go on line) has them for $100 but regulary on sale for $70. Or if you have a Big 5 (again on line if you dont) you can get some black boots for $20 that will last long enough to finish the class.

As far as pants, you wont need anything fancy in school, just get some cheap black cargo pocket pants from walmart.

For boots I'm still a huge fan of the Converse side zip boots. The most comfortable ones I've ever worn

That's what duct tape + electrical tape is for!

Oh yeah, that didn't make me feel ghetto at all, going in to work like that. You know you're broke when you have to seriously debate whether the shoe looks better with half the back chewed off or with duct tape covering it.

Oi... noob no.... whacker in training, yes.

Whackers are those in EMS who make it their entire life, are more interested in cool toys, "cool" trauma, woo-woo's, flashy lights, shiny things, etc than anything else the field has to offer, and can be found at malls/BBQs/public wearing an EMS shirt with cheesy graphics, an EMT hat, and hey a watch kind of like that, and then they come up to you and say "Hi I'm Jimmy, I'm an EMT!" Well no **** Jimmy, didn't notice.

(It's not a desirable label)

At least save it for AFTER EMT school. I bet that watch will catch snickers if seen by those you work with in Clinicals.

Personally, I do not spend more than $10 on a watch. Of course the one time I bought a $30 watch it got run over by one of our trucks, so I am very happy with my cheap Wal-Mart watch that works just as well, looks as good, and won't make me want to cry when it is eventually broken or lost.

LOL, I figured, but yea, need to find me a watch, something that can get dity, time to get looking

Thanks for the replies guys, really like those Bates Boots, will order this friday. Also, we were told we need a watch with a second hand, while I know any watch will do, this one looks really nice and kind of stylish- http://cgi.ebay.com/Smith-and-Wesso...=ViewItem&pt=Wristwatches&hash=item563d32499c. Will I come across as a NOOB in my EMT-B class if I show up with an EMT watch lol

Oh man, that gave me a good laugh. Simply because- If I would have saw that watch when I joined EMT school.. I probably would have bought it. :P

I agree with Lucid- cheap Dollar Store/ Wal-Mart watch will suit you just fine.

There is a difference between eagerness and.. well just plain whacker.
