medical majuaina cards Do they effect taking NREMT?

Hello everyone ive used this site a few times to answer some questions been very helpful i was in class on Friday and my instructor informed us that if we had a medical marijuana card or HAVE one that we will be "banned" from LA county and NREMT and not be able to become an EMT, followed with a question from a few classmates well why are we here this now instead of when we entered the school?

we preformed our live-scans and nothing came back anyone with some type of information would really put my mind to rest i don't even feel like studying anymore

i really want to be an EMT....i don't know what i will do with my life if i cant =/

The NREMT doesn't do any kind of drug testing. This is the first time I have heard any say anything like this so I doubt it's true (could be wrong).

LA County and/or local EMS companies will normally due drug testing. However even if you have a card it is still illegal per federal laws so more then likely you will not get hired and or receive your EMT card.
 
thanks for replying, What if i don't smoke weed anymore, that was when i was 19 now 25, the card i had isn't even reuned so it lapsed will just having the card in my medical records ban me?

can they even look at my medical records?!!?
 
It's highly unlikely that there will be any issue as long as your drug tests come back clean. We may or may not have a supervisor who may or may not have a card.

From my understanding that is a hippa thing. As long as u dont test positive you'll be fine especially if its lapsed. Best advice if you want to work in this field is to just steer clear of it. Save yourself the heart ache and stress. I think ur instructor was just trying to scare you sober.
 
Thanks for replying , yeah i made a BIG mistake when i was 19 im very straight edge now live a healthy life style so no worries on this end

Are you sure they are mispelling it or are just unaware?
 
If you don't know how to spell it, you probably shouldn't be citing it.

Glad to hear that smoking medically prescribed "weed" at age 19 was able to cure you of your illnesses in under 6 years.
 
Additionally, HIPAA may not apply in this case. While having a prescription for MMJ may be considered protected information, an actual MMJ card may not be depending upon the state.

It cannot show up in Colorado, but apparently some other states issue cards that are more "viewable."
