Legs gone after wreck; future bright

Paramedic Tim Hayes was assisting drivers in an icy car crash on Interstate 77 near Davidson when a tractor-trailer lost control and slammed into his ambulance, pinning Hayes against the guard rail. He lost both his legs. Two years ago this week, Hayes was released from the hospital. Staff writer Jennifer Rothacker spoke with Hayes, 34.

In related news, ther is a medic in Pittsburg who only has one arm - she manages to be a fully-functional medic there without assistance.
