Thanks everyone. I haven't really been looking forward to this one...reaching the end of my 20s just seems like I've finally grown up or something, like that country song
My Next 30 Years. But its been a good one, and I guess being an adult ain't so bad.
I actually did most of my celebrating last night since I went on-duty at 6 PM tonight and am on until 6 AM Tuesday (gotta love holiday weekends). We went out to dinner at my favorite "party" restaurant,
Bahooka. If anyone remembers the old TV series
Riptide, its was the "hangout" featured in the show. Its rather accurately known as a "ribs and grog" place, and they have the best selection of rum drinks I've ever seen. Two Zombies had me feeling like one.
Tonight, well, let me just say that its an interesting experience to let your FD buddies know its your birthday, particularly when you're on duty for it.
I was just getting out of the shower before dinner, and my wife came to the door asking if my pager had gone off. I asked her why, and she said she could hear sirens very close by. I came out into the living room in time to find the engine, the ambulance and the utility truck all pulling up in front of the house. Most of my crew had shown up with an ice cream cake, so they, and one of my neighbors, came in and we had dessert before dinner. Was a bit embarassing, but all in good fun and definitely let me know I wasn't forgotten.
So, I'm sitting here playing with my new toy, a
Dell DJ20 (think iPod) my wife bought me. Considering I didn't have a single MP3 on my 'puter before last night, I've now found a new hobby.
Jenny and I also get to go see
John Hiatt at the House of Blues next month courtesy of my inlaws.
Anyway, thanks again all.
"Thirtysomething" Chris"
