All. Just wondering if anyone knows the extent of a coordinator's authority to change/ edit or redo calls submit by emt's in a private ambulance setting. My thoughts are that the coordinator has complete authority. Anyone want to help me out with this?

huh???? EMS coordinator? is that an operational positions within the agency, a clinical position, or something outside the agency?

and what are you talking about redoing or submitting calls?

if you are talking about run sheets, than NO, the EMS coordinator does not have any right to change any patient care report submitted by an EMT. only a person on the crew can modify a chart, and they are supposed to either sign/initial any changes they make. or sign the chart in the designated place.

run reports are legal documents and can not be modified by another person

coordinators are sometimes synonymous with the supervisor position.

Lawyer up. Or check for EMSA. Certainly check with your employer.

I am pretty sure I am right that you cannot alter a run report. Get a legal opinion as to how one can addend such a report. While you're at it, figure out your role and methods for preventing this happening again.
I might turn it over to side 2 and add the legible names , times and dates for the crew and the run if they don't appear on the front, then print/sign/date myself below it with title.

If we want to alter a report that we have already submitted we have to fill out an official addendum (?) with the changes and it is attached to the original report.

Thanks for the responses. But let's say the crew is unable to complete the reportlike if one or both of the crew is extremely hurt or incarcerated etc. How would the run report be completed?

re

Laughed out loud when i read incarcerated, if they are able to talk they can dictate it to someone.

Edit: My response removed and saved for further posting.

No offense but I think a mod needs to take a look at this thread from the standpoint of rules on legal advice.

EMTs= Plural of EMT
EMT's= EMT is, or signifying possession by the EMT

Extremely hurt or incarcerated...right up my alley!

The imagination runs rampant at that....:rofl:
