Hi all,

I have only recently join in the EMS field as a BLS/IFT guy. Within days of working around the bay area,CA I am reminded of my ride along days; All everyone talks about is baseball! When I did my ride along in San Francisco, the medics there would watch and chat about Giant's games between calls the whole entire 12 hour shift, and now all my colleagues talk about is the As game and such. Since I don't watch baseball, I am started to feel a little bit left out...

Does this phenomenon only apply here in CA, or is it pretty much a common theme across states? and why baseball, but not basketball or football (granted they are not exactly in season right now?)

They probably talk about it so much because most often, in my experience, they are too out of shape to actually go play the game themselves.

People also happen to enjoy sports... Its not that specific to EMS that people enjoy talking about the big game the day after...

Football is very much in season... pretty much everyone here, including me, hates baseball lol

Speaking of baseball, did the Tigers beat the Yankees yesterday? I know they played but I didn't see the score :P

I'm in Cali and very few employees watch baseball. Football is a lot more popular with the EMS and Fire folk here.

Come to ny. We don't talk about the Giants or As. We talk about the Jets, Giants, Yankees and Mets, the Nets and the Knicks, the Rangers, The Devils and the Islanders.

I used to work with a few guys that did and we would kickback and talk sports and watch games on tv. Now, all everyone talks about is Crossfit and motorcross. Bunch of a-hole bros.

As a person who enjoys motor cross over every other sport I find that highly offensive.... Ooh wait, I am an a-hole and a bro hahaha

Lol I'd rather talk world sbk or motogp over football

Out here, the Kings were a big topic of discussion... but the 49ers, Raiders, Giants, and the A's were all topics of conversation as well. However, the Rivercats were fun to talk about too, because they're the local ball club (A's farm club) and they're actually really good! Not to mention cheap tickets...

and we hate the Red Sox. and the Patriots aren't very well liked either.

Here we mainly talk hunting/fishing.

We talk about the Giants... a lot. We here in the bay area are very loyal to our sports teams. I don't think you can walk down a block and not see a couple of SF Giants shirts, hats and license plate brackets.

Probably mostly because the situation the Giants are in is why it's such a topic of conversation. Either way, baseball is a unique sport that doesn't involve people bashing each other. Gotta use your head and you don't have to be in the best of shape to be great at it! Uniquely American.
