Took my ambulance certificate at the dmv last week and passed! Yay you would thing that I would be happy, but they killed it. Said my aplication had to be reviewed becase of a 6 year old traffice violation. You cant even start a BLS job without that so now I am just sick to my stomach waiting for this goverment office to review my file. Any one have any advice.:excl:

Move out of California?

Don't worry about the wait. The wait to get an IFT job will most likely be much much longer

Thanks. So either move out of cali or I might be waiting until June to get a job:rolleyes:

It still might take moving out of California to get a job. That place is- despite it's best efforts to make EMS completely nonfuctional due to excessive administrative meddling- oversaturated with basic EMTs. The only thing that they have more of than unemployed EMTs are unemployed actors.

Yes you can, it depends on the company though. If it's something that's likely to be approved, I'd just apply anyways. However, the Ambulance Driver Certificate is not an official requirement for anything past driving.

Is a BLS job worth the wait

For you BLS people...Do you like what you do? Is it better then a dead end job?

What are your eventual goals?

It is a dead end job unless you want to further your education. Welcome to the medical equivalent of working at TGI Fridays (being a CNA is the medical equivalent of working at McDonalds).

LOL, and true

OP- If you want a job in EMS get out of CA. If you're looking to go to a Fire Dept. who cares about working in an ambulance anyway? Get a building type construction job, make more money and will be more marketable to a fire house than a gurney pusher.

However, even McDonalds and TGIF needs managers, and those oppertunities should never be discounted, even if it isn't your current goal.

I always see people bashing California. I am willing to relocate once I finish paramedic school. Where should I be looking to go?

Regardless of where you end up working you should at the very least file a document with the DMV about the infraction, the dues you paid and, if any, actions you've taken to assure you won't get in that fix again. It should be stated in terms of your goal of beginning EMS. Make special note of training and whatnot that will paint a picture of yourself as SERIOUS.

Good luck, and don't back down!

Given that most of those people doing said bashing live in California, that might tell you something.

California is horrible! Lived here th entire 23 years I've been alive. Its a freaking black hole. Too expensive to move, too expensive to survive

CA EMS sucks which is why a lot of people bash it on EMTLIFE.

.... ya know... I have to disagree. There *are* jobs here, you just have to work your *** off and really distinguish yourself to get them. Start in IFT, work up to ALS.

OP- what part of CA specifically are you job hunting in?
