We no longer carry there the places I work. There are however still places in the USA that require them on the ambulance but I doubt they are used much. I I remember correctly the studies that show their effectiveness were skewed and very biased.

There is no need to post the same thread multiple times. Ppl will see the first one and reply if they have anything to say.

The service I moonlight with in Iowa still carries them on all trucks.

Mast

Tnx

We just took them off our truck about 2 months ago. They are still in protocol, they do have their place, but I believe they had only been used once.

same concept different pitch

the strange thing about this product /concept is that it is around since 1800's in different variations and it seems that every time the old variations dies and new one is born .....could someone explain what it the difference between the old MAST pant's and the new AAT ( abdominal aortic tourniquet) they are promoting these days ?

isn't it the same mechanism ?

Still part of RI protocol, out of state EMTs need to take an EPA/MAST class to get an RI license

they are taught as a part of our curriculum yet they are no longer part of the PA protocol or even required to be carried, I actually think there was a memo posted a few years back to remove them from our units.

I have never had a use for MAST not even in pelvic fractures there is much better options like the SAM pelvic sling on the market these days.

I know my service still has the MAST/PASG and it sits in the closet with piles of dust on it..

Don't carry them in our ambulances. I have never seen one (other than pictures). In EMT class we talked about them for 5 minutes.

Was taught them six years ago and told i would never see then again. No service I've ever worked for has carried them. Pointless to do so

just checked the RI required equipment, MAST trousers are required to be on every ambulance or else it is a violation that must be corrected within 10 days if caught without one.
