Holy cow. What kind of EMT program is that? Is it an accelerated class or what? I'm somewhat surprised by how much that costs. My course(at a JC) was only about 150 plus books etc.

    Interview With AMR??

I got guff for not wearing a blazer when I went in for the interview(I applied at Riverside). The tests are done here(San Bernardino/Riverside ctys). It's not quite that test though. You have to do a step test, essentially a tall stair master to a metronome for a couple minutes. Then you...

    Interview With AMR??

I thought it was your second interview? If you're a dude(you're not) you should wear a suit(that means a blazer too). You're going to have to figure out what the female version of that is, because I have no idea. Be there one hour early and make your presence known. Let your...

What region of the US are you from?

I'm working down in southern California. Riverside county, all of it.

    Your First Job

Well what's your goal? To get your medic and do fire? If it is, I'd go with AMR. Get a ton of hours, get into their paramedic program and then quit as soon as you get picked up by a department. That's what I'm gonna do. I've never even seen a McCormick rig or talked to any of their...

    Your First Job

I just got hired with AMR. I haven't even started yet. But here's what I did. I got my EMT-1, got my ambulance cert, got my county card, then bought a tie. I dressed up, went into their office in Rancho Cucamunga and applied. Took their multiple choice test. Then I called the HR department...

    tips

The biggest help for me during my EMT course was knowing people outside the classroom. Get to know at least one of your classmates, and study with that person outside of the classroom environment. The only way for me to learn properly is through repetition. I had to read the prehospital book...

    I just discovered this

Just a little FYI, don't call an ambulance driver an ambulance driver. They're EMT's. I got guff for saying saying that my position was ambulance driver never call it an ambulance driver position, ITS EMT! Ha, I never knew it was somehow mildly derogatory. Oh yeah. Never say someone is...

    Second interview with AMR

Not that anyone cares... I got the job. Don't anyone get injured in Riverside, you might get me! Thanks for your input guys.

    Second interview with AMR

I never thought of it that way. That actually might help me out a bit. I'll be honest though, I was quite intimidated in the first interview. The interviewer sat behind a nice desk in a tall chair, and I was sitting in a small almost child's height chair(probably on purpose). He gave me...

    Second interview with AMR

I received a call this afternoon from AMR HR stating that I have a second interview with them. From what I've heard, if I've made it this far I'm getting hired. I still want advice. I'm buying a real suit tomorrow to look spiffy and I'm rewriting my resume. What else can I do to look more...

    textbook question

In my class we used the Brady book. "Prehospital Emergency Care". The thing is roughly 2 inches thick, or 4 cm you crazy Canadian. It's incredibly thorough and worked great. The included self tests were a big help too.

    I just applied at AMR

The course was 6 months long(jan-june) 8 hours a week. We did lecture on Monday nights and lab on Wednesday nights. The instructor was Art Durbin and a few other paramedics/EMTs that helped during lab nights. I can confidently say that it was the best class I have ever taken, it was fun...

    I just applied at AMR

Yeah. It was 100 technical (just standard ABC(D)'s S(OPQRST)AMPLE) questions and 40 personality questions(true false). I'd say it was easier than the national registry, but still harder than most quizzes during my EMT course. I really should have studied though. I know I could have aced the...

    New EMT-SD County

How are Palomar's health programs? I'm debating going to Palomar or UCR for my anatomy and medic classes. There both the same distance from me(45-50mi).

    I just applied at AMR

I get that you don't need a resume, but do you think it would be worth it to make one up? Or do they not care at all about them? The thing about the coverage area is, it's all of Riverside county(about the size of Oklahoma :P), I don't have a choice where I'm stationed, I take what I can get...

    New EMT-SD County

Have you taken the national registry test? Or was that your final? Also, I dig the fallout avatar you've got going.

Anybody have any suggestions for the upcoming interview? Anything I should study? Any questions I should be ready for? What I should bring? Is a resume really necessary? Feel free to dump your thoughts on the matter. Or your getting hired process.

    EMT-B pay rate?

Yeah, that's totally true. Every EMT that I've talked to that's been hired says the exact same thing. I know that EMT-Ambulance drivers (working for AMR) in the Riverside area get anywhere between $10-15 an hour. Don't be picky when talking to whoever's doing the hiring. If you're picky...
