Here the hospitals require a minimum of CNA, a there is no way for EMT-Bs, I, or P to "challenge" the test...you have to take the CNA course which is stupid in my opinion.
This goes contrary to what I was told on a call. Called to a nursing home go in asses and the medic told me to run (and he emphasized the word run) back out to the medic and get the Life Pack... So are there certain situations where you should or is it pretty much a blanket "don't run" policy?
Where I volunteer the only person allowed to have lights and sirens in a POV is the current Fire Chief and the Fire Police (basically they show up and direct traffic, can only use Lights on scene). Chief can get them because they pretty much have to show up to every fire call even from home...
Got dispatched to a nursing home for trouble breathing. 94 year old man on a non-rebreather with the tank CLOSED. :o Yeeeeah...no wonder he was having trouble breathing.
I'm just starting the process. I go for written testing this weekend, but it was over a month from the time I applied to the time I was contacted about written, and I'm sure it will be another month between written and physical agility testing.
I always hate the waiting game, I'm trying to get one with one of the County Fire/EMS agencies in my area and the waiting game drives me crazy... Good luck :D
Get one of those plug in heating pads, at least you'll be able to rest on one while watching TV or just relaxing on the couch. Wouldn't recommend falling asleep with one though.
Not to discourage you, but this job definitely won't help your back pain. Might be a good idea to consult with a doc first. Hope it all works out for you. (btw, does heat help you back pain, something to consider if you haven't tried it)
Hello all,
New to the forum, I am a current EMT in Maryland looking to become a Medic here in the next year or so. Looking forward to chatting and learning from all of you.
