In NJ, you don't take the NREMT exam anymore. As of January, there's a new state test. NJ will accept an NREMT cert, but they don't generally offer it.
I got a call for chest pain once, found out it was the cat having chest pain, the owner that was flat out crazy. Predictably enough, we didn't transport.
That's one hell of a pandora's box. Hell, I fit both of those. When I'm riding ovetnight, sometimes I forget to put my lenses in when I wake up for a call. When I joined I could barely lift someone over 120 lbs but both of those are things that I get better at. I've learned to make a habit of...
If a medic plans on weighing that much, I wish them the best of luck trying to work in such confined spaces. In terms of LOOKING professional, if I'm sick enough that I have to call 911, all I want is someone that can do their job, I don't care what they look like. Of course, if someone is going...
PD responds with us on all calls. On an unresponsive or disoriented patient, they'll usually try to grab an ID while we work them up which is why I like the idea of keeping ICE info with a liscense or other ID. Other than that, unless we have a large enough crew that we can spare someone to...
I lock my contacts and I would agree with Ridryder in that nobody is going to take the time to scroll through 100s of contacts when there's an emergency. I keep my ICE info taped to my ID, but I like the suggestion of keeping it on bright paper, mine is just on plain white.
With my contact...
I myself don't have any tattoos but a few of the medics do and I don't know that they've had to cover them up because they're usually exposed. I don't think I've ever seen a pt complain about on either and IMHO if they're well enough to complain about who's treating them, they're well enough to...
Well, that's what Teaneck's Box 54 does but I think we also sent over an apparatus...I think there had been a request for additional manpower at some point as well....
Holy crap...THAT's what happened last night?!
I was at my corps last night and we heard a request for our FD over the radio. Thought it was a bit weird that they wanted us because we're around a half hour out....
My parents are re-doing their bathrooms right now. My father totally fell for it. He e-mailed me and asked what I thought about installing our router in their toilet.
Parents never cease to amaze me....
Honestly, I don't think I could make that sort of generalization, it's a case-by-case thing, but I'm sure everyone has a sense of what calls pose potential threats. There are the general drug use or behavioral calls, fights, etc but also when I show up for call in a bad part of town or I get to...
In NJ it's ten hours that you can either do in a hospital or on a rig (actual calls, not just 10 hours at the building, etc). I think more ride along/clinic hours should be mandated, but I got the feeling that the people who were serious did more than the bare minimum.
Meh...it's a personal pet peeve of mine when medical personnel who are unqualified to deal with a situation attempt to do so. I was on the highway with about a week left of my EMT course when there was an accident w/ injuries. I pulled over and this guy showed up acting all self-important...
Our cops respond with us to all calls. If they can't make it and the scene appears unsafe, there's no way I'm going in. If I have an issue with a patient, I want a cop in the rig with me, not even following behind.
