The Importance of Being Spinally Immobilized

Libel? Holy mother of Odin, dude, seriously, step away from that pulpit. I know I'm new here but come on, you need to lighten up and unwind somewhat. That post is 100% in jest and you know it, regardless of how far you read on it. I thoroughly enjoy this site and have learned a great deal...

    Another German guy...

Literal translation, "Rescue Service", comprised of two words, "Rettungs" = Rescue and "Dienst" = Service. Akin to stating EMS in the back of someone's jacket. P.S. I am not German but after 13 years there I managed to learn the lingo. First word that gave me a seizure...

    Really?

Hang on, you are saying then that no one complains about their job? ever? medical field or otherwise? I have a pretty good day job yet sometimes I get irked about it and complain about it to colleagues. That doesn't mean I shouldn't be in my job, it simply means I found an aspect of what I did I...

    Really?

Folks, while not stated, I believe the OP is a volunteer who is most likely on a "duty-crew" rotation at a night of his/her choosing. So yes, while I agree with most replies about this subject, I am not certain the OP was refusing to go on a call that seemed frivolous. nor will he stop going...

Looking to upgrade our squad's dress uniforms.

Thanks for all the comments thus far, much appreciated. So, to reiterate, we got the duty gear covered. What we are looking to do is upgrade our dress uniform. The gear we wear when we are trying to impress our township folk, and maybe impress them enough to join us for some BLS goodness...

    NJ BLS Protocols

Thanks. This is the first time my suspicions have been confirmed, even if it is unofficial. I have asked folks who are regulars in the NJ First Aid Council and have not gotten a straight answer on this. I need to speak to the OEMS folks. Thanks.

Looking to upgrade our squad's dress uniforms.

This is good to know. Very good in fact. I'll select a test member and try this out. As for how long they've been doing this, let's just say for a while. :)

Looking to upgrade our squad's dress uniforms.

Rob, thanks. Do you happen to know what make/model that shirt is? As for the black zip up, I recognize that Under Armour, I have that but not as a uniform piece. We do have sweatshirts with the squad's logo and our unit number in the back, hoods and the like. Our jackets are fully ANSI...

Looking to upgrade our squad's dress uniforms.

I have been asked to come up with ideas to upgrade our squad's dress uniform which simply consists of a white shirt (Ebelco, Paragon Plus) and 5.11 black EMS pants. The term used to describe our female contingent while wearing this uniform is "dorky". The male side of our squad looks like...

    Advice for a newbie?

Hmm, not exactly all. Some of the squads here in South-Cental NJ and further South have "Trainees" who ride on calls under very specific guidelines. In short, no unsupervised (unless directed) patient contact, must have 2 certified EMT's along with one beyond their probationary period. Our...

    NJ BLS Protocols

Folks, does anyone know whether NJ has its protocols posted anywhere? I have found other state resources, some quite comprehensive, but nothing on NJ. Thanks in advance.

Soooo you THINK you know your steps to control bleeding !!!!!

Types of shock were not only mentioned during my recently finished EMT-B class but subsequently, and quite stringently, tested upon as part of the module testing. The question was raised (to my dismay) during class why we needed to know the different types of shock if we couldn't do anything...

    People make my head hurt!

This ^^^ Take diabetic to ER, family present, had asked pt and family several questions they either denied or simply did not respond. Get to ER, triage nurse could have asked what their puppy's favorite pee spot was and they would have answered that. I was lucky to get a history. <_<

    People make my head hurt!

OK, I wasn't expecting a Douglas Adam reference here (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) but I'm pleasently surprised. Patient was mostly harmless? ;)

New guy here, lookin' for some advice.

I just finished my class in NJ and subsequently passed the state exam and I'm now an EMT with my township's volunteer squad. What really helped me through the class, not having had any prior medical training, was pre-reading every chapter before the class at my leisure and asking my fellow...
