    Thinking about becoming an EMT

lets just say that in order to be happy in EMS you have to love it. as said if you're a medic you can make a OK living, if your a Medic on an FD, you can make a good living. shifts for EMT's run anywhere from 12-24 hours and you don't usually have regularity, meaning, you can work 4 24 hour...

BSI - What do you do?

i wear gloves almost all the time, but always when I'm with a patient. my hands are very clean but the patient doesn't know that. i wear glasses when blood or vomit is imminent. i wear a mask during births or any time blood spray is imminent.

    Text Messaging

i don't text at all. i can have a 30 second phone conversation and get out more than i could if i sent 200 texts. it fights boredom and you can talk to people that you don't want to at your convenience, but that's about it.

    Student (NYC); rotation soon

depends on how much you know and how confident you are with what you know. the rotations will only allow you what you are trained in so don't worry about taking a situation over and going "i don't know what to do". secondly, some proctors will lets you take a few call "on your own" where you run...

    first diabetic seizure/D50 experience

Depend how low the BS gets and how long it stays that way. if the BS is around something that i have heard of as 18 mg/dl. then the patient can go into a coma due to lack of nutrients to the brain and other vital organs. however most diabetics that experience this have depleted glycogen reserves...

    Show me your ink

i have one on the back of my neck just below the collar line.(not pictured above) i like it, especially since i like the spot and it is overall a good looking tattoo. i find that if you tattoo something like this on you however, you're more prone to staying in the medical field so you don't get...

Old Medics don't die, they just mutate.

thats very inspiring, but i don't plan on ever leaving the medical field if i have a choice. I will leave EMS one day but as long as i don't burn out, i plan on staying in medicine and learning as much as i can. i have however noticed that what you learn in EMS helps a lot in life when you're...

    online education

when i did A&P online the labs were on your own. you had to buy a $300 Lab kit and a 600x microscope. they sent organs in a freeze transport device where you stored them in your freezer until dissection time. the labs were very easy to follow and you had videos and other activities to accompany...
