    Your opinion of police officers.

Actually, a lot of EMS is based on assumption. We collect data about the patient and then sort through the differential diagnoses for a potential problem, and then assume that the patient has the most likely problem. Occasionally, we choose to rule out something which, if left untreated, could...

How far would you drive for a 24/48?

1.5 hrs each way would be my limit unless it was my dream job and I was going to move to the area.

    Your opinion of police officers.

So, you have a triage scenario, where the police worked triage as the lowest trained emergency response providers (which is appropriate) and EMS provided medical response. If EMS disagrees with Triage, they should stay and provide triage and wait for medical response units.

    The Future of EMS

Oral surgeons who do nothing but cleft palate/cleft lip often do both MD/DO and DDS/DMD schools in addition to dual residencies. I don’t see how 6 months vs 15-20 years could even be similarly comparable. It’s not that you need 6 months to learn the procedure, it’s that you need years to...

    The Future of EMS

I’m only referring to the last year or so, since the NHS is in collapse and covering less and less. There’s an article a day about things which are no longer covered.

What is the difference between a "Certificate" and a "Degree" with regards to employment?

Certificate is completion of a Paramedic Program. Degree is completion of a paramedic program (certificate) and some additional courses to earn a degree. If you can easily afford it without loans, more education is almost always better.

    The Future of EMS

I think the future in the US holds several things. I think we will see blood-labs being run in the field during calls. I think we will see automated trauma kits that work like AED’s in most public places (“begin by removing the clothing. Place the orange tourniquet around the affected area...”)...

How sober does someone have to be to sign a refusal?

You either need enough evidence to be able to document it without a shadow of a doubt, so that you are not accused of kidnapping, or you need PD to pink slip the person and make it their responsibility. If it is worth that to get them to the hospital, do it. If it’s not a big deal, don’t fight it.

    patients with carry permit

If it makes the scene unsafe, call police. If it is just an item, remove the holster and leave the firearm in the holster. Store it the same as you would store a wallet. Turn it over to security at the hospital.

    Teaching yourself

I took a dumbed down Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology and Paramedic Prep course before Paramedic school. I took a lot of other courses afterward for Pre-Med, Pre-Nursing, Nursing and NP. If I were doing Paramedic all over, I would take Anatomy with a Cadaver Lab, Physiology...

    Chance me: criminal history

I would speak with an attorney about getting your record sealed or expunged. Contact your state board of EMS to find out the actual laws regarding employment and then just be honest on applications. Showing you have learned from a mistake can be a positive thing.

    Hey Y'all

Hi Jeff, I am currently an FNP student at The Ohio State University. While all state nursing boards have different requirements, you should be aware that generally speaking, being an FNP in an Emergency Department used to be the norm, but is no longer the case. Family Nurse Practitioners...

Do you have a college degree, and is it EMS related

They still require an EMT card as a prerequisite.

Do you have a college degree, and is it EMS related

I am curious to know how you can do that. I took paramedic 6 years ago and needed EMT, Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Terminology beforehand. (Granted, those are all not nearly enough) How would you do all that and medic school in 3 months? My medic school was only 9 months long, but it was...

    Assignment Ideas

I think essays are appropriate for Paramedic school, since NAEMT/NREMT are trying to move Paramedics out of a tech role into a provider role. I don’t see the point for EMT’s though. It would be like having an essay on drownings to complete a lifeguard class. Kinda misses the point of being an...

    Paramedic to RN in CA

I am a Paramedic in nursing school. My experience is that Paramedic to RN programs have tons of hidden prerequisites that regular RN programs do not. At first they appear to be a major time savings, but in the end they are not. When you search for an RN job, employers around where I am really...

    TP-C, CCP-C, CPP-C ,TR-C, EM-C, EMT-T,

I use to do SAR and have taken WEMT a few times. The quality of WEMT courses varied wildly. The good courses did one really great thing for me: they taught me to think way outside the box. I’ve done a lot of things where I’ve used makeshift gear now when I didn’t have something and it would’ve...

    I need advice/help badly

I would also utilize an EAP if you have one. I used it about 3 years ago and it practically saved my life. I also think that you should just openly talk about it with your crew. They can most likely recommend specific local resources. Some of them have probably also been there before. You...
