    Questions for volunteers

Requirements usually depends on the department. But judging by looking at the agencies around, almost every agency has a problem with several volunteers that don't do anything. Those are called t-shirt wearers. My department requires me to respond to 20% of all calls, which is easy. They can...

    Calling for HEMS?

The agency in question has one EMT Basic that responds, and when that EMT is unavailable, there ambulance is unable to respond. We are automatically on the run card because that agency has a history of not being able to staff an ambulance so all calls we have to respond as well for ALS/ILS. And...

I've heard that the chief up there and the HEMS agency has had some conflicts in the past, but it seems to have done no good

    Calling for HEMS?

Man that sucks, I didn't really want to make a big deal out of it. But I don't really like watching people get there lives ruined by a $20,000 bill lol

    Taking the National Written

When I took my NREMT-B, I had been out of my EMT class for about 2 months. Not to mention my EMT class was a 5 week cram session, so my education was pretty much garbage. None of my instructors actually worked as EMTs, they were all corpsman. When I found out that I was taking my national, I had...

    Calling for HEMS?

I currently work on a band aid bus that provides mutual aid to a rural Fire/EMS agency. They currently only have one Basic working so every time their tones drop, we get toned as well. So we end up taking the 30 min drive to assist them. The thing that bothers me is that they like to call for...

    Georgia AEMT or paramedic

I mean, the only "benefit" of having experience as an AEMT is the ability to start IVs in the field. AEMTs are still BLS, I dont think that having your AEMT would be a huge plus.

    Superacute response

First of all, physicians can't really do much in the back of the ambulance due to equipment limitations. I think that having experienced medics/nurses is acceptable. Maybe give medics more training and increasing the scope of practice (ultra sounds, chest tubes). But having a dedicated MD on an...

    Epi for anaphylaxis route

    Epi for anaphylaxis route

This may be a dumb question. But I am new to this world and have a genuine question. On our standing orders EMTs, AEMTs, and EMT-Is are only allowed to administer Epi Sub Q. Where as Medics can administer IM. I understand that IM works faster, how come it is restricted to medics? What is the...

    Paramedic Programs in Big Cities

The Oregon Tech/OHSU joing paramedic program in Portland Or. has a great reputation. It's a two year associates program with an option of getting your BS in EMS management. They are considered to be top in the state and agencies are always looking to hire graduates from the program.

Trauma, choosing the right transport destination.

Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to the EMS scene, just got my AEMT and now working on my EMT-I in the state of Oregon. I wanted to get some opinions on deciding which hospital to transport to, my agency is located in rural Oregon. The city I live in has a Level III Trauma center without a...

Hi, I'm a volunteer Firefighter/EMT going to collage full time going through a pre-med program. Does anybody happen to know any scholarships that are for people in the volunteer fire/ems world?

    New EMT seeking advice.

Our protocols state that basics may attach a 12 lead to the pt, usually so the ER knows what isn going on as soon as we walk in. I notice that everyone is saying certain "styles" and the on scene time of 15-20mins is acceptable. So is it appropriate if I do the primary survey on scene and...
