    scope of practice and diabetes

Are EMT-Bs allowed to check blood glucose in PA? I work on ALS trucks, so if I do it, I do it under the supervision and instruction of a paramedic anyway. But it seems like since we can administer oral glucose with an order from command we should be allowed to check it if we have the...

    He has no pulse!

this used to be a huge problem for me too. I could never find a pedal pulses, so when I needed to check a pulse in the inferior extremities, I tended to just grab a look at cap refill. Then I reached down my own foot and managed to find a dorsal and posterior pulse. I don't know which one...

    Evoc

I am trying to find some options for EVOC for some other EMTs at my service. Problem is I am really not as connected as they think I am. Does anyone know of any EVOC courses coming up in the Southwest Pennsylvania area? TIA

    Command

I'm in pennsylvania, and its not part of NIMS. What I know is this: Paramedics attain it at the time of certification, but it can be revokde seperately. As to what it does or is, I know not. Any medics from PA in here?

    Command

I figured the ALS people out there would know this if anyone. What is "medic command"? There has been talk of this lately in my area, specifically about it being revoked, and I'm wondering what it it?

    Obstetrics

What is an ALS provider going to do (SPEAKING PURELY IN PREHOSPITAL TERMS) that a BLS provider isn't? In my area, medics and techs are on the same footing for obstetrics. assessment of OB calls is the same for BLS providers and ALS providers here. Once you get to a hospital, all bets are off...

    Obstetrics

WE have to write a report everytime we take the ambulence out for a call. If it's cancelled, if the pt refuses, we always have to do a report. and Obstetric calls are BLS here. Talk about assumptions Rid. Obstetrics aren't basic, but the skills for delivery are filed away under BLS skills...

    Obstetrics

And that is my only small bit of comfort in a 20 minute waste of time that I had to do a trip sheet on anyway.

    Obstetrics

Exactly! His wife was probably none to happy with him what with the speeding and lack of comfortable seeting arrangement in what was called in as a 2 door sedan.

    Obstetrics

I can clearly remember the instructing medic telling us in the obstetrics portion of class how glad he was that he's never had to deliver a baby. Every Medic I've ever run with has made it very clear that since obstetrics is classified as BLS in PA, that if we get an obstetrics call, I will be...

    Learn CPR

When I was learning CPR the instructor had this story to tell about a former student: The kid had just gotten his CPR card and was doing a ride along. He was so excited to be on a call. They get to the pt, who is un-responsive. The kid kneels down, shakes the pt's shoulder and yells...

    Confidentiality

I got a question about patient confidentiality. I was on a call the other day to an apartment building. Our PT was an elderly woman, in fact, that describes most of the residents of the building. I know from many, many, many, past calls to this place that residents there tend to be rather...
